Lt. Vershaft, a hawk anthro, is the systems officer on an independent mercenary starship, "The Cause". The owner of the ship is an anthro Enfield, which is a creature with the head of a fox, the body of a greyhound, forelegs(arms) of an eagle, hind legs and tail of a wolf, and mane of a lion, and in his case, with blue fur. (His mother was really a good sport.)

Enfields, in setting, are pretty rare, having suffered the loss of their home planet some time ago. Of course, being a systems officer, that means working in some dangerous parts of the ship, sometimes while they're getting ready to fail. Ooops.

Well, at least this will improve the species gene pool. And he got to keep his red tail!
