In Wisconsin it was decided (due to politics) that there HAD to be a Spring wolf hunt (Done in March of 2021). Because there HAS to be one every hunting season, but wolves were still protected in the fall, therefore it had to be in the Spring before the season ended. You know. Spring. When wolves den and have pups. A "limit" of 200 was placed (including 81 to local native tribes who did NOT participate in the hunt, leaving 119 to non-native hunters), however due to how the hunt was done 216 were killed (that is about 100 MORE than were allotted for) before the season was closed. Now, despite the majority being against it, despite science being against it, a "quota" of 300 wolves is open for a Fall hunt. This is out of a current population estimate of about 700.

After the Spring hunt, there were more howls heard. Calling for pack mates that would never return the call. Now we wait to hear the songs for the fallen.
