Dragon Bodhran Drum by arikla

Dragon Bodhran Drum

arikla

Commission piece:
I do not usually paint drums, but when one of my best friends from college contacts me and asks nicely (and sends the drums) I said I'd give it a go. Not too bad if I say so myself :)

These drums are for her godchildren. Mom is Scottish and Dad is Chinese, so blending the two cultures and sticking with meanings for the children's names was a fun challenge! Child's name has been removed, but that is the only editing done to these images.

Plum Blossoms, Dragon and center knot are Chinese based; Juniper, shape of the Dragon and center knot Scottish based. Yes, that central knot worked in both ways and I loved it!
