WtV: Faction Asgard: Fink feeding birds

Made for me by the kind RoyalWaffle @FA.

Maintenance of the habitat drum interconnect module had caused several tsunami like waves on the nearby coastal regions.
In and of itself a process that Pacifica AC considered regrettable, but acceptable, just as a real tsunami could strike an area on a planet.
It helped to shake up plant grow in the area.

+++ Incoming Message from calling beacon #2 on 'Sunset Beach' +++

Someone had dialled the ACs direct call number from one of the public phone booths. The camera in the calling beacon showed foliage - a tree had collapsed over the beacon - and the zoom objectives of cameras in the sky above showed several Mantis units stalking around and clearing away the trees that had fallen on infrastructure, throwing them in randomized patterns to other places where they could have ended up, too.

Pacifica accepted the call.

"pffffrtIIIEEEEEEEK!" An acoustical dial-in sequence with serial number, location data and currently assigned task beeped on the line.
"Hello Fink."
"Hi Mom! Say, you like the birds in this area, right?"
Communication with Mantis units of the 263 production series with their wider character variations tended to resemble talking with a prepubescent sapient - or an intoxicated adult sapient.
"Yes. They were settled in the area 109 orbital cycles ago."
"Ahhhh... 500 years already? Well, they didn't spread very wide, right?" This sentence wasn't in classical Kwanikwa, but came in a mix of the two languages the sapients in Pacificas Docking area used.
"No, because these birds rely on the coastal fruit trees."
"<bird song>"
"... You... Are warning ... others away from your area... for a partner?" Pacifica AC wondered if she should maybe consider integrating the more popular animal noises and song into her language systems, but birds changed their song every few years, and removing language data that had become obsolete always felt like cutting oneself.. or what Pacifica thought cutting oneself would feel for a biological lifeform.
The foliage was lifted away from the camera on the calling beacon and the rosy anti-glare tinted inner cover of a Mantis eye poked nearly into the beacons camera. It was so close that the camera on its swivel mount inside the pinkish globe became faintly visible.
"No! I said that there is no food and asked if anyone saw something tasty! We should set up feeders until the next generation of trees has grown enough to bear fruit, or bring in some trees from another area."

The inventory list from the hatcheries in both Habitat drums #1, #3, #7 and the separate farming module B was in Pacificas awareness. Mantis units in the areas gave their reports regarding suitable trees and upon receiving Pacificas decision gave their estimated timetables until the trees would arrive at Sunset Beach.
On the overhead cameras in the sky Pacifica finally was able to make out the Mantis unit that used the phone booth to call her.
The robot had cleared away the tree from on top of the calling beacon in the mean time.

"Fruit bearing trees will arrive around dusk. Alltogether 30 trees, that equals roughly the pre-tsunami number of such trees in the area."
"<foink!> That's bad." Finks voicebox sounded frustrated.
"Fink, what now?"
The Mantis lowered its head so that its line-of-sight antenna with it's round illuminated endcap came into view. On it one of the small colorful birds sat and tried to peck the soft plastic material to pieces:
"They're hungry now."
Somewhere one of the large optical telescopes of the station carefully turned into its resting position and banged a few times into its mount before picking up the task of monitoring the sky.
"I send a carrier-crab down the coastal courseway with feeders for the birds. They are currently being assembled. 3 Minutes until assembly finished, two minutes for transfer to the nearest logistics depot and then it is just a few minutes for the crab to fetch them and bring it to you. You decide how you will use them to feed the birds."
"Thank you mommy!"

Pacifica disconnected the call, and then sent a datagram to Fink via the normal in-habitat radio:
"Why didn't you use your normal radio?"
"The phone is here for emergencies on the beach."
"Yes, that is their purpose at that location."
"Well, this was an emergency for the birds!"

Pacifica thought a moment and decided that other stations with large biomes might actually be interested in the exact variations of the Mantis 263 production series. They were entertaining, though also exasperating at times.
And it felt good to feel such emotions.
