Aouzy's Backstory by Aouzy

Oh! Hey there... My name is Aouzy. I guess you're here to learn a little about me. Why I am who I am now. Well, it all started with me afraid of going outside. I'm very introverted and... sheepish. Now I'm a sheep, as you can tell. Maybe it has something to do with that. Anyway, I am or at least, I used to be afraid of people. I almost never spoke to anyone.

This all started with my mom asking me to take my little sister, Wendy, out for a walk. Wendy is 10 years old, she could go almost anywhere she likes, but my mom decided to send me with her “to get some fresh air”. I happened to know just the right place to take her.

There was an open field quite close to our house. It was nice and quiet, away from people. It was quite long too; it would take you a whole day to cross the entire thing. It was void of any people, besides some picnickers near the edge.

I opened the door, holding my sister's hand. We made our way down the street. It was rather chilly that day and I only had a thin sweater. I kept my sister close to me to at least get some warmth. She had everything keeping her warm, from a bright yellow toque down to her thick white coat. Then there was just me, in a gray sweater and black jeans. I had nice curly hair to keep my ears warm, so that was something at least.

So we started our way to field. It was such a peaceful day too. The only sound you could hear were the clacking of our shoes. What a relief! No one to bother us on our way.

We soon came across many trees, this meant we were close. There was still no sign of anyone, so it seemed like we were in the clear. It was almost sun down, and the sky was tinted orange. It was beautiful with the rolling tall grass, waving in the chilly wind.

We were finally there. We made our way down the middle of the field. Still in awe of atmosphere, we felt one with nature.

“Hey, Alley?” Wendy said to me, my name wasn't Alley, it was Alex, but she thought it was easier to call me that. She loved to annoy me too.

“Are you still cold? I can give you my coat if you want.” She smiled, taking off her coat. To my surprise, she was wearing a big fluffy sweater the whole time.
“Oh, s-sure th-th-thanks..” I stuttered, taking it. Lucky for me, I was slim so it fit very well on me.

While walking down the fields, we came across something... weird. It's a giant mound of pink dust. We wondered what it was from, or who it was from. Wendy, clearly showing no signs of caution, picked the stuff up.

“Whoa, Alley! Look closely at it!” She held it to my chest and looked down.

Knowing my sister, I shouldn't have done that. She giggled and then blew the stuff into my face! My nose felt numb as it got inhaled. I coughed and sneezed while she was having a laughing fit. The only thing I could do, was pick some of it up, and peg her in the face with it. I hit her so hard with the dust, that she fell over.

“Oh! I didn't mean to hit you that hard! Are you okay?” My mom would have murdered me if she found out I hurt my sister.

I went over to her to see if she was alright. She wasn't hurt but... she looked a lot different. Her mouth and nose were pushed outward from her face, her nostrils were big. She had point thin ears poking from her straight blond hair. She looked like a sheep. I gave her a slight nudge, waking her up. She noticed herself rather quick. Feeling her snout with her hands and then touching her ears, she panicked and hummed like an alpaca we saw at a petting zoo once. In fact, she was growing light cyan fleece all over her body except her face. Growing a tail from her behind. As she grabbed at her fleece, her hands balled into fists. She tried to open them, but they were stuck. They turned black and flattened.

“W-wendy?” I said in shock, I thought that maybe I was hallucinating. I was going to say another thing, but instead I baa'd like a sheep. I gasped and put my hands on my mouth.

When I did, I felt my mouth and nose started pushing them away. My mouth soon became a part of my nose. The nostrils widened, at least I could smell better. My chin met the rest of my snout. My alpaca sister was humming at me, I could tell she was frightened. My ears were crawling up the side of my head. They shaped and molded, becoming long and pointy.

Right where my ears were, there was an intense amount of pain. It eased a little when the horns fully grew out, but it still hurt like hell. I rubbed them, even though I was scared, I was also curious at the same time. As I was feeling them, my hands became numb. I brought them done to eye level and noticed that they were swollen and dark. After a moment, I couldn't move them. They were numb, so it didn't hurt at all when cracked and shifted into hooves. I was so consumed by feelings that I fell on to all fours. A dark grey wooly tail popped out from my pants and dropped down. Looking down at my, erm, legs, I saw my skin turning a light grey colour. My sister was now silent. She was staring at me like she didn't even know me anymore.

I heard a tearing sound, along with me feeling hotter. I rolled on the ground trying to get the coat off me. My clothes ripped, there was so more dark grey wool growing all over my body, except for my face.

That's how I turned into a ram, but there's more to this story. I walked over to my sister to comfort her. She hummed out loud, trying to draw attention. It couldn't be heard from where we were, so I bleated as loud as I could. It was really weird, not being human anymore didn't seem to faze me. In fact, I ate some grass in between bleats. I loved sheep, so it was exciting as much as it was scary.

Bleating didn't prove much help though. We figured that maybe our mom would come looking for us. Then again, she would be looking for kids, not sheep. I began walking back home, at least she would know something is wrong if two young animals were banging on the door and waking her up.

We then made our way. It was a good thing we knew our way home, otherwise I would never be telling you this story right now. It was such a peaceful walk back too. The only sound you could hear were the clacking of our hooves. What a relief! No one to bother us on our way. Well, we did get noticed by a few people, but nobody seemed to mind two sheep strolling down the street.

Before we knew it, we were home. We stared at our house, afraid to make a move. I was so scared to see what would happen. I knew my mom would freak if she saw her kids were animals. I leaped up our stairs, it was much easier than just climbing them. I didn't want to just ram my head into the door, so instead I located the doorbell and pushed it with my snout. Wendy struggled to climb up the stairs but she still managed. She put her head on my leg, as scared as I was.

The door opened and we braced ourselves. My mom opened the door, gasped and then shut it. We couldn't tell what she thought, but we knew it wasn't good. She opened the door and talked to us.

“No.. It didn't happen.. You two can't be..” She said, beginning to cry. She held the door open for us. I waved my head to my sister, signalling her to come with me.

We both sat or in our case, lay down in the middle of the living room with only a dim light switched on. It was silent, an awkward kind of silent, like we just broke a vase. My mom came back from her room and sat down on the couch.

“I shouldn't have forced you two out, I had a feeling this would happen..” She said in a monotone voice

“I really wish I warned you two about this.. It's too late now.” My mom was petting me for some reason. To this day, I'm still a little angry at her for not telling us about whatever that pink dust was and to avoid it.

She went back into her room again and grabbed her cell phone, dialled it and began talk to someone.

“Hello, yes? It happened.. Yeah.. Two of them, one is a ram and the other is..” She squinted at my sister. “An alpaca? No, tomorrow afternoon would be better. I'd like one more night with them. Okay, thank you.”

She put the phone down and breathed a relieved sigh. At first I had a weird feeling that she was going to put us down, the way she was talking on the phone. My mom then looked to us and smiled, picking up my sister and putting her on the couch. She tapped the cushion next to her. I climbed up onto the couch and lay my head on her lap. She pet the both of us, telling us what was going to happen.

If you're wondering where my dad is, he moved halfway across the country. Though he still supports the family. In fact, he wouldn't be supporting us if he didn't move. He's in a band and was recording an album at the time. I'm sure my mom told him what happened.

Anyway, she told us that we were going to be picked up tomorrow, and moved to a town specifically for animal people. I always heard rumours about it, but I never thought it was real. She then said that they would help me be walk and speak again. It sounded unrealistic to me but I believed every word she said, like the sheep I am. I was surprised she wasn't too down about this. She was losing two children that she loved very much.

She turned to me and said, “I think this is best for you both too! You'll meet new friends, go on wild adventures and you'll be free! Trust me.”

I let out a nervous bleat, making my mom giggle and kiss me on the head. I'll tell you now that I never got over bleating, I still do it to this day. At least everyone thinks it's cute.. She stayed there the whole night with us, having my sister and I close to her. Even though we weren't human kids, we were still her children. I did feel like a pet, but I was more concerned about the next day to feel any embarrassment. My eyes struggled to stay open, the night had to last or I would of regret it. Imagine the last night you would have with your mom and you spent it on sleeping. It was okay though, I was there with her the whole time so it really didn't feel like she was left alone.

Just like that, I heard chirping of morning birds and there was red in my eyes. Looking away from the windows, I opened my eyes and stretched my legs. I was very tense about that day. I'm someone who hated change. This day wasn't supposed to be tense and worrisome, it was quite possibly the best day of my life. I trotted over to my mother's knee and nudged it. She snored, shaking her head and opened her eyes, smiling at me. She ruffled the grey wool-hair on my head. My mom told me to go to my room and pick what I could take with me.

For the first time since I was transformed, I was rather excited. I bleated a loud and galloped to my room; which lucky for me, was not up any stairs. I searched my room, trying not to trash it up. I needed something that was sentimental to me. While I was digging and throwing things out of the way, I came across a photo of me and my sister. I set it aside, and took out a notebook. I'm a writer, and at that moment I thought I would never be able to write again, so I also set it aside. The last thing that I could find was a letter from my cousin, Penny.

Penny is my cousin and probably the only friend I had, at least when I was a human. She was quite unhygienic though, but I was always used to her stink. Everyone told her she was like a pig but I always stepped in and defended her. My family bullying her, made me cry quite often and after seeing me doing so, they stopped bugging her. She was there for me, so I was there for her.

I put the letter with the photo and notebook and bleated for my mom to come get them.

“Oh my, you startled me Alex! What have you got?” She said stepping inside. She looked at my pile and her smile turned deadpan. She turned to me and hugged my neck. This was all too depressing for me, I wanted to hug her back. The only thing I could do was lick the side of her cheek. Just as we were having our moment, we heard honking from outside. My heart started to beat fast, as I was all too nervous about this.

“Alex, Wendy, I love you two no matter what. Maybe I'll visit you, but for now, goodbye.” She said kissing us both. She took my belongings and brought them to the truck outside.

My legs shook with every step I took. Once I stepped out the front door, I knew there was no turning back. Mom was holding the door open for me. The was sun gleaming bright in my eyes, I thought I went blind. When my vision cleared up, I saw something that was supposed to be impossible. The driver wasn't a human, the driver was a tall white mouse. She turned to me, smiled and waved.

I couldn't believe it! That was until I got into the back of the truck and lay down. I saw a black pig girl, who also was anthropomorphic like the mouse. She had blonde hair and a pinkish-purple mark on her forehead. She was wearing overalls, a pink scarf and pink gloves for her hooves. She was also a little chubby, as you could expect. The pig got in and sat next to me, she looked eager to see me.

“Hi dare!” She turned to me, speaking in Japanese accent. “My name is ah Natsumi, and I will be ah helping you recova.”

My mother came back with my sister and gave her to Natsumi to hold for the ride. Wendy seemed to like her, she hummed and licked Natsumi's snout. Natsumi giggled and snorted, hugging her in return.

Holding back her tears, my mom waved goodbye to us. I tried waving back to her, but I only managed to lift a hoof. At least she saw it, she nodded and blew me a kiss.

The door to the back of the truck closed, there was darkness for a few moments, and then the lights turned on. Natsumi's eyes lit up at the same time too, realizing something, she reached into her front pocket and pulled out a red vitamin-like tablet. Using both hooves, she put it in front of my mouth. There was a few seconds of awkward silence, I took the tablet since there was nothing else I can do and kept it in my mouth.

“That will help ah you talk in awhire, normally I give-eh them at the end of the ride, but we've got a long treep and I ah don't want to be lonery...” She said, wiping her hooves off on her overalls. I swallowed whole thing with out chewing it. To show my appreciation for her, I licked her cheek. It was the only thing I could do anyway.

“Heh, that was ah cute. I'll take-eh that as a kiss.”

She was pretty, for a pig. It didn't help that she was one of my favourite animals. Though, getting romantic with my helper would probably have ended badly. I was never good with girls, or anyone for that matter anyway. It was still weird to me at the time that I, as an animal, had feelings for another animal. It's pretty normal now, at least.

Wendy was fast asleep about an hour into the ride. Natsumi set her down and picked up belongings that were in between us. She aww'd at the picture of Wendy and I.

“You two ah such adorabo siburings!” She squealed.

I felt a sharp pain in my neck that became a fizzle. I coughed and cleared my throat, only to hear a voice come from it.

“Oh! I think it's-oo working now! Try to say ah something!”

I struggled to make a word, but managed to make a complete sentence.

“Ha... Haiyeeee...Na-a-a-atsooomeeee?” I bleated out. My voice was soft and brittle. Also, a little stupid the way it came out.

She squealed and giggled. Natsumi was so glad that I was able to talk, somewhat. She was grinning ear to ear, waiting for me to talk more.

“I ca-can t-a-a-a-alk! Oh muh... my go-o-o-od!” My tail wagged and my heart punched my chest. I was so happy I kept bleating without a care in the world.

Natsumi ruffled my hair, just like my mom did before. I feel like I had made my first real friend. I never talked much when I was human, so I'm quite shy to everyone that I do talk to, but being with Natsumi this long made me lose my fear of her.

“N-Natsumi? How did th-a-a-at stuff turn us into anima-a-als?” I asked, probably not the first thing I should have said to her.

“Well... Nobody knows. What ah we do know is that there is a gang of-oo people all ova tha world who turn people into animals with ah that stuff.” She said. “No one is sure of their ah plan, but some think that they are doing it just for the sake of ah chaos.”

I had no idea there was a cult that was doing this. “My sister and I j-j-just found it though, nobody ca-a-a-aame near us.”

“It must of ah been from som-oo-one from before..” She replied. “Anyway, at least we ah know how to make-eh you normal again, in a way.”

“I'll be able to w-walk aga-a-a-ain, right?”

“Oh yes! It takes a little ah ronger than just talking though, but don't worry, Satoshi and ah me will both a help you with-eh that!”

We talked the rest of the ride there. Natsumi asked about my past life, when I was a human. She was born a pig girl, not transformed into one and wondered what being a human was like. I told her it was probably similar to how her life was like. She was so interested too. I got her to hug and nuzzle me after telling her that she was cute. We felt each other getting a lot closer with each conversation.

I wondered who Satoshi was though, was that the mouse driver? Well, after Natsumi and I got to know each other along the ride, we arrived at the town my mom told me about. You remember how shocked I was about Natsumi and the mouse? You wouldn't believe how shocked I was, seeing no one but anthro animals. There were foxes, dogs, rabbits, otters, goats and all kinds of animal people, I even saw a few dragons!

I was getting looks for being new and a quadruped, of course. I knew that I would soon be like everyone else at least, even among animals I felt like one.

Natsumi carried my sister and belongings off the truck without waking her up or dropping anything and took her to her front door. She motioned her head for me to follow her. I trotted to the door, wondering what was going to happen next.

She opened the door and stepped in. “Satoshi!” She called. “They're ah here!”

Then, I saw him. At first I didn't know what he was. At first I thought he was a sloth, then a wolf, then a ferret. He is actually a lykoi cat, they happen to look like what a cat would look like if they became a werewolf. He wasn't scary like one though. In fact, he was quite cute and huggable.

Satoshi had light blue skin and black fur. His hair was in the same style as mine He wore a black and white striped sweater with a red scarf and regular blue pants. His claws were huge, they were scary at first, but Satoshi looked so mysterious and fragile, I don't think he'd ever hurt anyone.

We both avoided eye contact with each other but he at least mumbled a hi to me. Natsumi chuckled, “You're a bit of a sheepish sheep, aren't ah you? I'll reave-eh you two alone while I ah tend to your sista.” Just like that, she left the room with my sister, leaving us two be.

Satoshi approached me as slow as possible. I don't see why, I was too nervous to even move. As soon as he got to me, he knelt down and looked me in the eyes. The whole thing was so weird and somehow humiliating to me. He then started to pet me. How ironic, being pet by a cat. I half enjoyed it.

“Don't be afraid... I would never hurt you.” he said, smiling and inching closer.

At that moment something in me sparked and motivated me to try and stand up. I hopped up, my front legs on his shoulders. Satoshi was confused, but he got the idea of what I was trying to do. He grabbed me by the hips and pulled me up. I bent my back backwards and tried to balance myself. I wobbled a lot but Satoshi was there in case I fell back. I managed to stay standing. Now I had to walk. I bent one knee and pushed off my other leg. I did this slow at first, but with each step, I got faster and soon perfected it in no time.

I came back and gave him a big hug and a nuzzle. He nuzzled me back, I could tell we were going to be best friends

I walked to the bedroom where Natsumi was with my sister. She gasped, proud that O didn't actually need her help. I went over to her and hugged her, she hugged me back while rubbing my back. I started to cry which only made her hug me tighter.

“It's okay sheep boy! Let it ah all out.” She hushed

“We need a name for him.” Satoshi said, walking into the room. “He looks like one of those Aoudads so... How about Aouzy?”

It was a cute name but, I had no idea that I looked like one. I hadn't even seen myself in a mirror. I glanced past Natsumi's shoulder and caught a good look at myself in her mirror. I looked a lot like I did when I was human, except I had a sheep snout and horns. My wool had a neat sort of pattern too. In the middle of my hair was a lighter grey area that was just a splot, same for my fluffy chest. My skin was the same colour as the splots and my wool made it look like I was wearing a vest and shorts.

“I don't look ba-a-a-ad at all!” I cheered. Bleating my As is a speech impediment that I have, but it doesn't bother me. Satoshi even giggled and joined in the hug

“Hey, will my sister be able to talk soon, too?” I asked, not that I wanted her to, but It would only be fair if she could.

“Well... She's ah too young to take it now.. I'm sorry... She'll be fine though.” Natsumi replied, letting go of us.

It was too bad... I really wanted to talk to my sister. I guess this change is something that I'd have to go through with. It's a miracle I'm able to do any of that. She made a cute little alpaca so it made me feel better

I sat on the bed, grabbing my note book. Natsumi and Satoshi sat next to me and read along with me. They thought I was a great writer. Satoshi even offered to collaborate with me. I agreed and got to see some of his amazing art.

While showing me his drawings, sketches and doodles, I remembered about my letter from Penny. I scrambled, looking for it on the bed. Satoshi reached into his pocket and pulled it out.

“Sorry, I read this thing without asking. That Penny girl sounds really close to you..” He said as he handed the stained letter to me. It read:

“Dear Alex, thank you for being there for me. I know we don't see each other much but you're the closest person to me. You're kind of like a brave younger brother to me, actually. You mean a lot, I hope that one day we will get to see each other all the time. You were always there for me and I want to be there for you. I would have been nobody without you. Please, never forget about me. Love, Penny”

I started to tear up again. Yeah, I'm a bit of a crybaby, but I can't help it. I felt that nobody cared about me. Satoshi pat me on the back, trying to cheer me up.

“Hey, how about we all go outside and relax? It's sunset already!” Satoshi spoke up. Natsumi agreed and held my hoof on hers, Satoshi did the same with my other hoof. My sister decided to sleep on the bed, she's quite the sleepy girl.

We lay outside on the grass, looking up at the sunset and talking to each other. I told them how grateful I was to finally have friends, a new family and a new life. Things were looking up and I couldn't wait to see what new adventures and friends would await me. I remembered my cousin Penny and wondered if I would ever see her again.

When all was silent, we saw a shooting star dart across the sky, I felt Natsumi nudge me

“Make a wish, Aouz” Natsumi whispered into my ear.

“I wish Penny was here.” I smiled and wished.
