Kallias by Amber-Aria

Kallias

Amber-Aria

Kallias is a well-intentioned but unsettling man who hides his face behind a hood and mask, and expresses his emotions through a levitating glass bead rather than the tone of his voice or his body language.

Rather than being brainwashed or trained to maintain absolute control over his every emotion as well as his subconscious mind—a rather unrealistic task—he was instead taught to externalize them in an extremely specific way: every emotion or errant thought he experiences is directed towards his little glass bead, which bounces when he's happy or buzzes violently when he's not. Although this does wonders for the safety of the people around him, it has also had the unfortunate side-effect of making him come off as quite the cold fish. His face never displays emotion, he speaks in a flat monotone that varies only in volume when needed, and his (entirely forced) laughter is downright creepy to those who insist upon hearing it. The mask he wears, in fact, is nothing more than a tool to help people imagine something more expressive than what actually lies behind it, as he ironically comes off as less human when he isn't wearing it.

This was a commission for a fascinating character of Ganelon's, and I felt compelled to share a snippet of this character's description that originally made me so excited to try and draw up his design.
