Roboteers Standby! by Alterflane

Roboteers Standby!

Alterflane

The double doors were opened one by one by the feline, her face beaming with pride at what she had to share with the others. She quickly made her entry into the darkened room before her, leaving her friends standing outside in the bright light of the low midwinter sun above. The group looked towards Jerek for an explanation; he lived with Viridian, so surely he must know what was going on. He just shrugged his shoulders. "She wouldn't tell me a thing" was all that he could offer.

Moments later, a whirring sound began to grow in volume from the makeshift workshop. The sunlight reflecting off and revealing the proud cat's latest project - a remote controlled robot for battling other such machines. As it raced forward towards her friends, moving with relative ease over the uneven ground surfaces, Viridian proudly boasted about her brilliance and future dominance over any and all competitors she may face in an implied long and successful career in robot arena combat.

The response was one of delight, all of her friends instantly getting close to the contraption and inspecting it with curiosity. It certainly wasn't the tidiest construction ever made, several bolts stuck out awkwardly in some places and not all of the plates fitted together as well as they should.

"So what does it do?" Trent asked. Viridian gestured for the group to stand back and without really giving them the time to do so the top of the robot sprung open. A plethora of arms and weapons reached up and filled the space directly above the machine.

Viridian proudly pointed out the excessive amount of weapons now visible one at a time; the mallet for smashing, the axe for chopping and circular saw for cutting apart her foes - each one looking to be far larger than they would ever need to be.

"Of course, that's just for starters. The rest are a surprise for later!"

Eyes tried to peek inside the opening. How all these managed to fit inside was a mystery in itself, let alone wondering how other tools of destruction occupied the space too. Their gazes were soon brought to the apparent lasers attached to either side of the robot.

"Are these what I think they are?" Alterflane hesitantly asked, knowing full well what they almost certainly were.

Viridian nodded enthusiastically, her grin widening even further;
"Yep, two fully-functioning TF ray lasers! I'd like to see my opponents beat me when they're in control of the smallest robot the world has ever seen. If that fails, well, then I'll just zap their machine into a toaster or potted plant."

"I really doubt that's going to be allowed to compete."

"Nah, it's fine" Viridian replied, "I've checked the rules several times over, nothing explicitly says that I can't use TF gadgets, so that's that sorted!" The group just looked at one another with a look of disbelief. That was until Jerek spoke up.

"But this is a battle competition, it will take some damage at some point and you've left these rather exposed and vulnerable. What if they get struck and start firing TF rays all over the arena and into the audience, judges and competitors? You could lose control of this stuff at any point!"

Viridian just giggled, "Honestly, I'd be super-disappointed if that doesn't happen!"
