Quinn One Page Warmup

Kit walked through the forest trail slowly, admiring the colorful fall leaves adorning the trees all around him. It was a beautiful day, with clear skies and a spooky chill in the air. Very appropriate for the day before Halloween. And what better way to celebrate the dropping temperatures and beautiful trees than a hike? His tail swished cheerfully behind as he imagined all of the candy he’d get to eat after this year’s haul-

The fox paused, looking around. It was faint, and distant, but Kit thought he may have felt an earthquake. There were no aftershocks though. Only a slight breeze blowing through the leaves filled the silence. After another moment waiting to see if anything would happen, he shrugged and continued to hike. A leaf floated from above just past his face. Kit reached out to grab it-

Boom

This time the shockwave was more pronounced, a sudden rush of wind pushing the leaf out of reach and tossing his fur every direction. Couldn’t be an earthquake then. Kit knew this was probably an approaching giant. The bigger question was how far away were the footsteps coming from? And who was stepping closer? He started to count the seconds between the next quake, trying to estimate just how tall the macro could be by how long each stride took.

BOOM

Several seconds between each step then… that was pretty tall. Possibly a mile or more. Kit looked to the sky, trying to find any signs of the approaching giant. Birds took flight all around him, crows rushing out of the branches in a cacophony of caws and flapping wings. A shadow passed over the entire forest as a sunlight above was blocked by some massive creature.

BOOOOOOM

The world crashed around Kit, as a mountainous paw landed in the forest. He was tossed to the ground by the air pressure alone pushing him backward. Toes as tall as skyscrapers surrounded Kit on both sides, blocking his means of escape. And looming way above those paws was a long, slender body and a grinning meerkat face. He looked familiar with the blue eyes and silver fur pattern… that was definitely Al.

“HEY KIT! GUESS WHAT I TURNED INTO ON THE FULL MOON THIS TIME? BET YOU CAN’T GUESS,” Alkali said, blowing clouds away and sending gale force winds down to the forest below. Trees shuddered in the wind; leaves stripped off the branches in an autumnal typhoon. Kit covered his head and waited for the torrent of wind to stop, before looking back up at the looming meerkat. He gulped.

“How long until the next full moon again?”
