I finally got around to doing this as part of a request and promise made to Foxstar.

This is pretty much the reason I named my story "The Refugee"

Meet Alex.

Alex is a member of a race of hairless primates known as “humans.” He is a new arrival in the anthro city of Ninth Life, a refugee from a third world known as Earth.

He has lived a hard life, and it shows on his body. As with all third worlds, to live on Earth is to live on a world that has been scarred by famine and extreme poverty, by corruption and civil war, by disease and rampant genocide. It is a world that has been under constant scrutiny by the rest of the intergalactic community, ever since a war between the two ended. A war that Earth lost.

Being only 19 years old, Alex is too young to remember this war, as it ended before he was even born. He’s heard many things about the war: he’s heard that the intergalactic community is in agreement that Earth started this war. He’s also heard from many of his kind that it was the other way around.

Alex doesn’t really know which side to believe. And quite frankly, he doesn’t care. All he wants is a new life, the life of a normal teenager. One where he doesn’t have to worry about freezing or starving to death, and where he doesn’t have to sleep with a loaded gun in his hand.

He could not have arrived at a worse time. In the wake of recent terrorist attacks by various militant human groups, distrust and animosity between anthros and humans is at an all time high. If he ever even hopes to achieve his dream, Alex will first have to do exactly what he did on Earth.

Survive.
