Undertale is a charming RPG where “No one has to die.” It bucks several normal video game conventions, but ultimately delivers a narrative experience which could never exist in a book, film, play or tabletop game.

It took me about 18 hours to get through it, but I liked to stay and linger. It is also a very punishing game, in more than one sense of the word. I’ve never before gotten the sense that a game cared so much about me. For better or for worse.

I would highly recommend watching SuperGreatFriend’s LP of the demo. It’s long, so put it on while you’re working on something. But if you fall in love with the game, it’s out right now and only $10. It will make you work intensely hard, but like all good art, it will do something to you as a person, and you will be changed, if even just a little bit, for the better.
