Oni's Curse by Ageaus

Oni's Curse

Ageaus

There were tales about that cave. They said it was an unnatural place, though not made by man or beast. You were never meant to enter that cave, and you’re not sure why you did.

When you found the cave, it was empty. Empty; save only for the eerie air that pervaded the place. Yet though that unease pushed you back, something drew you inward. A moth to a flame. Maybe it was the legends of tantalizing power, or the tales of a secret so ancient it had to be yours? After all, you were a shaman of the earth, a mage of the wilderness. You had nothing to fear.

That flame drew you in to the eerily lit chamber, hewed by some mad god in a fit of rage from the very living rock. In that stone chamber is where you found it. A vicious, heavy spiked club lay jammed into the rocks, as if thrown in a final aggressive strike. In between the rocks and detritus, you saw skulls, smashed and whole, scattered amid the rubble.

It was too large for you to wield, but you could not deny your curiosity, and you seized it. Gripping it strained your body, it was clearly not meant for human hands.Maybe you hesitated, maybe you wanted to quit, but you didn’t. Maybe you should have. But somehow, despite the wicked weapon’s ages in the dust, you felt a warmth, a fire inside. And then on the outside.

Those battered skulls burst into life and rose into the air. The levitating bones circled you, moaning some cacophonous blasphemies, heralding the doom to follow. As the skulls sang, power poured from that demonic. A mace that you were, somehow able to lift. Demonic energy coursed from that mace and entered you, warping your body as it became lighter and lighter. It pumped that power throughout your body darkening your skin, and filling you with anger… and hunger.

A tail whipped out, and claws tore through fingers and toes, and hair changed into a brilliant, infernal red. Your teeth sharpened to fangs and tusks, humanity burning away, as the weight of the maul melted away. It was your own weapon, after all.

That energy from the mace contorted and twisted, making itself at home, making you fit the power. Horns erupted from your forehead, and a third eye opened. You now saw the world, and knew it was yours. Whoever you thought you were was gone. Perhaps you hesitated, maybe you almost cast that maul away, when you stood at the brink, but you did not. You turned back to leave the cave, and reenter the world, but only to dominate it.
