Blade of the Pride by Ageaus

Blade of the Pride

Ageaus

How long did you wander through that jungle? At first it probably felt like you got lost at the zoo, or maybe you were dreaming, as minutes turn to hours.

Was what you were looking for really worth this? After all that guy seemed more and more untrustworthy, the further you got from him. You never saw that person before, and if it was as easy as he said, you were pretty sure he was more than capable of going into the forest himself and recovering this relic himself. He didn’t even give you an accurate description of it. “You’ll know it when you see it” He’d told you. Come to think of it, “destiny” sounded like a lame reason to run into an unknown forest.

But now you were in deep, you’d stay true to your word, despite not trusting the man you gave it to. More time whirls by, despair replaces frustration. No relic, just endless green and brown in all directions. Maybe it’s time to give up, you think. Maybe it’s time to turn back.

You decide to check the clearing ahead, and then call it.

That’s when you found it. Too coincidentally in fact. You were initially suspicious, but your happiness overran your hesitation. You seized the blade, and held it up, as if guided by an unseen hand. It felt fantastic, emboldening and somehow perfect.

Light suffused the blade, and then travelled into you. As you held the blade aloft you felt your body being warmed by the sun.. or was it the blade? The warmth was growing inside you. Your muscles grew stronger, cording as you felt the power wash over you.

Thick golden fur spread across your body. from head to toe, heralding changes as it moved. The changes didn’t bother you, this felt right, this was fate after all. Your nose mouth grew into a snout, the way it was supposed to be. Ears moved back to their rightful place, and flicked into a feline shape.

A powerful tail swished, freed by your changing clothing. Feet elongated into a graceful feline’s paws, and claws gripped the sword. Humanity ebbed away, as your mane grew out from your hair, settling as it should.

Finally everything was right. You lowered the sword, and turned to face the motion your heightened senses picked up. The stranger who sent you here had returned, but this time he left his cloak off. “You went the wrong way.” He smiled and pointed behind him. A very clear path led back to town, where you met him. “The pack is waiting.” The towering leonin moved the foliage in front of you, "it’s time we went home."
