A majority of flying foxes are crepuscular, meaning they become active at dawn and dusk. They rely mainly on eyesight for navigation, along with their sense of smell, but the midday heat in their equatorial habitats makes daytime activity too stressful. Many tropical flowers open only in the morning or evening as well. This serves both to retain moisture and to attract these bats which pollinate as they feed on sugar rich nectar and petals.
