Another character who has needed a picture in my gallery for a while! Colonel Rebekah Spendlove here is the right-hand lady of the famous Commander Konrad (whom you'll see in my gallery soon!).

In order to understand Colonel Spendlove's role, it's important to know what the title "commander" actually involves in the Anderson Kingdom. Basically, a commander is a special position appointed directly by the king for the specific purpose of bringing down those on the pirate blacklist (the most wanted criminals in the kingdom). In order to achieve this goal, a commander is permitted the use of both law enforcement and military power. The commander him/herself can come from either a police or army background, and is paired with an assistant of the rank below from the opposite force (either an army colonel or a police superintendent). Konrad's background is policing, so that's where Spendlove comes in - she serves as his military sidekick of sorts.

However, Spendlove's appointment as Konrad's assistant, and indeed as an Andersonian colonel at all, was met with quite a bit of controversy. Originally she was an enemy of the kingdom as an officer of the Argonan army (Argona was the enemy of both the Anderson Kingdom and Illupia in a very recent war). Three years ago, she suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the pirate known as General Larenz. This resulted in her not only being dismissed from the Argonan army but being declared a wanted criminal in Argona, as she was deemed responsible for not putting a stop to Larenz. Many Andersonian citizens believe Spendlove should be serving time in prison for her actions against their kingdom too, and that hunting pirates is the last thing she should be doing given her track record. Seeing her publicly working in a position of such authority has left many people sceptical. King Anderson seems to place a lot of trust in her though, and those who work directly with her testify to her genuine commitment and strong work ethic. While she appears brutal and terrifying to those on the outside (particularly criminals), she has a reputation within the army and police ranks as being a kind of doting mother figure both to those above and below her.
