The Right Honourable The Baron Dufort by Adventurer

The Right Honourable The Baron Dufort

Adventurer

Another piece from my backlog, from September 2015. Description from original DA submission below:

Now here is someone who has been looong overdue for a picture in my gallery. I've been wanting to post a picture of this guy for years, but I never got around to actually colouring any of my sketches of him. Finally the time has come!

Dorian Dufort is a flohund, the same species as our friend Kari, though he descended from a different tribe. Tribal heritage is least of their differences however, because Dorian is a bit of an anomaly as far as flohunds go. Most flohunds live in warrior communities in Illupia, and have a strong relationship with wilderness. Dorian on the other hand was born and raised in a rich city of the Anderson Kingdom, and what's more, he's a noble, having inherited the title of Baron from his prestigious parents. The Anderson Kingdom is well known for being a human kingdom, and although most other sapient species technically have equal rights, it's more or less unheard of for a non-human to have a noble title. Dorian never seems to appear out of place, though - he's so well adjusted to upper-class Andersonian culture that people barely even notice he's not a human. The mostly similar anatomy between humans and flohunds probably helps with that - seriously, when he's wearing a hat, it doesn't even cross most people's minds that he might not be human - they just think he needs a bit of dental work.

Dorian lives a pretty cushy life as a Baron, mostly just living off his parents' wealth and government benefits. However, he does have a love for ships and sailing, as well as fencing. He owns a number of ships which he rents out, however he often insists on joining his clients' expeditions as a sailing officer. Perhaps he wants to keep an eye on how his ships are being treated, or perhaps he just gets bored with his life of splendour and enjoys the chance for a bit of adventure. Either way, clients tend to expect him to just sit around in his cabin and not get too involved, and are quite surprised to find that he's right at home climbing the rigging and joining in sea battles. He seems to enjoy the attention this brings him - while he's more down-to-earth than a lot of Andersonian nobles, he sure doesn't mind showing off when the opportunity arises.
