Made this for a modeling assignment in 2008; actually one of the first 'big' models I made. I later went on to do a proper render in mental ray for another assignment, but I wasn't very happy with it. Oh well.
Blender, internal clay render
Oh man, it's been so long since I made this; surprised I was able to find my project file.
It actually was a pretty quick process. I made a simple interlocking shape (ding) that I then repeated a lot using Blender's 'Array' modifier (similar functions should exist in other 3D suites). Once I got a good amount of duplicates, I merged the excess vertices, shaved the edges to make it fit in the grille's space, and applied some simple smoothing to give the mesh a less polygonal look.
o_O This is ludicrousness! D: now I'm anxious to see what else ye are capable of!
Have ye done animations yet?
and... HAIL BLENDER! :D
Nah, no animations; focused on modeling and lighting while I was in school.
And hells yes, I will be using blender forever. Amazing little piece of software
Ah, Animations in Blender for me were abit tricky (before the new interface release) especially since I came over from Autodesk stuff (temped to call it junk now, after they screwed me x.x) LOVING this new interface though and the Cycles rendering system.. just sucks because my GPU doesn't support Cuda ;_;
Have ye made anything new lately?
Ah, Autodesk. My college (went to school for 3d graphics in film) was a Maya stalwart. I did all my models in Blender and exported them to Maya so I could turn in the scenefile. Good times :v
Haven't been doing much 3d lately, but I just got a new computer so I finally have a machine that can handle it smoothly again. Currently modeling some dice that I'm going to get 3d printed and use in tabletop games
ahaha I wish. There are services that you can upload your models to and they'll print and ship them. Not too expensive, either!
I'll be using http://www.shapeways.com/

You should remodel this using ngons and no quads or tris and make it one piece and extrude everything off of the base. :V
