The duo are visiting the doctor because of the lasting case of inflation after escaping the lagoon. Something must be keeping them in this en-vinyl-ed state, after 2 weeks they should have reverted well before that so maybe the doctor can sort it out.

The average spellfluxed does have something they consider their "default form" and this base form is fluid and can shift over time. Transformations are considered layered on top. Gradually eventually this layered transformation falls away to reveal the base form of the spellfluxed. Transformations that last longer than this has a number of dynamics that keep them in place, the most simple being that the self image of the spellfluxed shifted to match the new transformed shape. Another example is extrinsic pressure, this can come from any number of sources: ambient theme, the immediate motif, other people and creatures. A shape can be enforced simply by enough other people thinking someone should be changed.

The more extreme dynamic of this is related to how more powerful forms are maintained, by actually requiring other beings to support or enforce another's shape. An example being Kobolds empowering a Dragon.
