The Light World of Godheim by Guei-Girl

The Light World of Godheim

Godheim is a place in Alerfa that represents the two afterlives. Godheim is the home of the Angel gods, goddesses and elemental beings of light.

Many centuries ago, around the common era times of human years, the Twilight of the Gods (aka. Ragnarok) has taken place. Many gods and goddesses have perished, Yggrasil, the former world tree has burned down, disasters and plagues took place and all mortal life forms on these ruined worlds lost all their memories and knowledge of the worlds as well as their past before the tragic event.

After Ragnarok, the surviving gods and elementals teamed up to re-build all eight worlds and grow a new world tree in the place of Yggrasil. This cosmic tree was dubbed Alerfa, and since then, life flourished a new.

Every god clan has been spawned and evolved from divine animals, and the Angel gods are no exception. Animal clans range from bird god clans to cat god clans. Each clan comes in many shapes and sizes, herbivores and carnivores, fearsome and calm. Not all Angel gods are a like. Each god of every clan has a distinct personality of his/her own. So God clans are just as diverse as mortal clans.

Races of Angel Gods

Aesir

Aesir are the elder holy gods. They are the main gods in charge of things in Esageard. The Aesir were born after the execution of the Jotun Ymir and are founders of all life in the cosmos. Notable Aesir include the Germanic Holy Gods Odin, Frigga, Thor, Balder, Tyr and the Valkyrie Doll Grethe.

Vanir

The Vanir are the younger holy gods of fertility, wisdom and magical energy. After the war between the Aesir and the Vanir, the two races saw the futility in the war and decided to be allies against greater forces that oppose them. Notable Vanir include Freyr and Freyja.

Jotunn

The Jotunn are divine primordial giants that are rivals of the Aesir and Vanir (and on some occasions, their lovers). The Jotunn are feared and revered by many beings of the cosmos and world trees, and are also know to lurk between both worlds of Esageard and Helheim. Jotunns range from being very beautiful and radiant, to very beastly and hideous. Notable Jotunn include Loki, Angraboda, Fenja and Menja.

Valkyrie

Valkyries are the ones that choose the souls of the slain and upgrade the souls to either reach godhood or to become other valkyries or einheriar. Before the Twilight of the Gods, they chosen the slain to practice the battle for the end of the world in Esageard. But since the cataclysm ended many centuries and eons ago, the roles of Valkyries and Einheriar have changed. Now they recruit the fallen to help with rebuilding the afterlife worlds and letting those worlds prosper like it did before the Twilight of the Gods. Valkyries and Einheriar can be of many different species with human like intelligence and can hail from any world of Alerfa.

There are two types of Valkyries: The Greater Valkyries, which rule with the higher gods, and the Lesser Valkyries, which are recruited by the Greater Valkyries after they shed their mortal bodies.

Valkyries famous in Alerfa include Tala Kayrahan, the dragon valkyrie that was the deceased wife of Emperor Basarla and the late mother of Princess Mayarie, and Tala's companion and friend, Mist Elmbarn.

Einheriar

Einheriar are basically the male equivalents to Valkyries. They are choosers of slain souls and help their souls progress and evolve. Two famous einheriar include Hagbard of the merfolk and Sigurd the Great of the humans.

Like with the Valkyries, there are Greater and Lesser Einheriar.

Hiten

Hitens are angels with feminine humanoid heads with the bodies of fiery red birds with plumage that resembles a flaming version of peacock feathers.  The tips of their plumage are as sharp as a tip of a knife and often times, Bishops would take the discarded plumage of a Hiten and fashion holy blade weapons and bullets out of them.

Cherubim

Cherubim are gold or silver birds with three or four faces, depending on the mood of situation the angel is put in. On their bird-like body, they have one humanoid face and two to three beast like faces.

Cherubim are the most unpredictable of summons used by Bishops. Either they heal the summoner and his/her allies, or attacks the summoners foes or perhaps attacks both parties. It is advised for Bishops to bond with their Cherubim and to tame them before using them as summons.

Hayot

Hayots resemble brightly colored starfish with multiple eyes dotted on their body. Their perpetrating stares can see right through someone's soul and cleanse them of any unholy terror that lurks within them.

Bishops use Hayots as summons to snap people out of seduction trances and to counter attack evil eyes and other ailments affecting someone's soul.

Wisps

Wisps are angels that appear to be formless balls of light that glow in the night skies of Esageard.  They are wise, yet impish beings that are full of energy, and take the pleasure to play around with various beings of many worlds, whether they are living or something else. In the human world, wisps are known as either angel lights, faerie lights, or ghost lights.

Bishops (as well as other magical classes) use Wisps as summons to light up darkened areas and to help them see in the dark, as well as driving away the undead.

Seraphim

The Seraphim are angels with the bodies of serpents, the wings of doves, and the heads of an androgynous humanoid being. They are known as the burning ones, due to their abilities to glow like a firefly and their venom which is used to poison the corrupt. Beings that please them are spared the horrible fate.

Bishops use Seraphims as summons for poisoning beings of darkness and the undead. The venom of the Seraphim is used by chemists to make healing potions and elixirs.

Lammasu

The Lammasu are creatures with their default form having the head of a humanoid, the wings of an eagle and the body of a white Minoan bull.

Bishops use the Lammasu summons as bodyguards to protect them from evil spirits, as well as people who do wrong to them.

Samjok-o

The Samjok-o are a very distinctive kind of animal god clan. The Samjok-o are a race of quadraped bird angels. The most common of this bird clan are the Samjok-o corvid clans.

The Samjok-o are very clever birds and make good companions of various angel gods within the realm of Godheim. Their intelligence and agile speed makes the Samjok-o a force to be reckoned with.

Notable Samjok-o bird angels are Eir Gullmannen, Mist Elmbarn, Aqua Elmbarn, Vatten Elmbarn and Chief Zekou.

Regions in Godheim:

Asgard

The region of Asgard is located in the northwest corner of Godheim. Since it is located in the north, Asgard, just like its sister regions of Vanaheim and Jotunheim, it is located in an arctic like setting, with the midnight sun during summer, and short day light in the winter.

The capital kingdom of Asgard is Walhalla, and it's former rulers were King Odinn and Queen Freyja. But ever since the aftermath of Ragnarok and the rise of Alerfa, Baler and Nana became its new king and queen. Its natives are the Aesir Angel God clan.

Vanaheim

The sister region of Asgard is located in the north of Godheim. Folksvangr used to be enemies with Asgard and started a war. However, the war didn't last long, and a truce was made between the two regions.

The capitol kingdom is Folksvangr, and it's ruler is Queen Freyja, who is also the queen of the Valkyries and Einheriar. Its natives are the Vanir Angel God clan.

Jotunheim

The region of the giants located north-east region of God heim. The giants are the ancestors of the all the elemental beings, except for the light and dark elements. Jotunheim is called the land of fire and ice, since the region has many volcanoes and geysers, as well as many glaciers and ice flows. It is a fearsome land, but very picturesque at the same time.

The capitol kingdom is Muspell, and it's (former) ruler is King Surtr. Ever since Surtr was sealed away, Jotunheim became more of a feudal region, with each region having their own chief and ruler.

The Novensile Kingdom

The Novensile Kingdom is a long, boot shaped peninsula located on the far west side of Dobra Kay. It's a very mountainous region and the climate varies from region to region. The seasides have wet winters and hot, dry summers, while the mountains have cold harsh winters, and hot muggy summers.

The Novensile Kingdom was so well revered amongst earth humans of the Ancient Etruscan and Roman clans, that they have been remembered for a number of centuries in Earth time.

The capital of Novensile is Elysium and the former rulers are Tinia and Uni. After Ragnarok, it is now ruled by their daughter, Queen Menrva the Bold.

The Grotto Kingdom

The Grotto Kingdom is a mountainous region located in the Eastern hemisphere of Godheim.

The kingdom and cities within the region are carved out of the mountain stone, with some secret shelter underground to hide from invaders. It was said that the deities and souls of this region took shelter underground to avoid Ragnarok, thus, many deities old and new survive to this day.

The capitol kingdom is Tian, and it's ruler is Fu Hsi.

Tir Na Nog

Tir Na Nog is as island region northwest of the Olympian Fields.

Tir Na Nog is called the Emerald Island of Godheim, due to it's abundance of sacred plants and trees that grow within the region. Though the summers can be nice, Tir Na Nog is known for having rainfalls during the cooler seasons. Despite being in a northwest region, snowfall is sparse in Tir Na Nog.

The capitol kingdom is Magh Meall and it's current ruler is King Mac Cuill,

Happy Hunting Ground

The Happy Hunting Ground is a very unique place in Godheim. Located in the middle of the world, north of The Celestial Kingdom, the Happy Hunting Ground is the home to both various animal god clans and the souls of regular animals from all the other six realms of Alerfa.

The unique thing about this place is that the souls of normal animals, once killed, eaten, and harvested for its parts, will rise from the ashes once devoured. A lot of extinct animal species from the human realm usually make this place their home after death.

The Happy Hunting Grounds is a feudal setting with each region having a Chief or Shaman ruling over the creatures of that region.

Takama Ga Hara

Takama Ga Hara is a huge sea horse shaped archipelago off the coast of the Grotto Kingdoms. It is a very unique and exotic location, filled with beaches, mountains, volcanoes, forests and hot springs.

It is said that this place has the legendary dual portals known as Ama-no uki-hashi, located in the remote mountains of Amano Iwato. One portal leads to Earth, precisely to the Asian archipelago of Japan, and the other leads to Yoseitochi, the land of yokai, fair folk and sprites.

It was said that Princess Ameterasu hid herself in a cave in Amano Iwato, and sealed herself in mithrite, since she grew tired of the war amongst gods during Ragnarok. After Ragnarok, she was unfrozen from Mithrite and led out of the came by Uzume's seductive dances and performances. Since then, Takama Ga Hara is now finally at peace.

The capitol kingdom is Yamato, and the current ruler is Ameterasu.

Aaru

Aaru is a vast desert region located south of the Olympian fields and Dobra Kav. There are vast rives running through this region, where life flourishes to this day.

However, there was a catch for souls that came here: Only souls who weight at the exact amount of Maat's feather were allowed into Aaru. Those who did not match the weight of Maat's feather were sacrificed to a demoness known as Ammit in the Helheim region of Duat. Either Ammit killed the souls for a second time, or to make them her personal slaves in her hellish abode.

Those spared by Ammit had to go though a long journey and face many perils along the way. Once the spared souls arrived, they had to enter through a labyrinth consisting of many gates. The gates are said to be guarded by aggressive spirits armed with enchanted weapons. But once the souls conquered the labyrinth and all its puzzles and riddles, they are rewarded with their new life in Aaru.

The capital kingdom is Akhet and it's ruler is Osiris.

Dobra Kav

Dobra Kay is a immense region that is north of the Grotto Kingdom. It is also the most diverse region in all of Godheim. The northern and mountainous regions have cold harsh winters, complete with little daylight, and hot, sticky summers, complete with the midnight sun. The central regions have plains and deserts, while the southern regions have more what humans on Earth would call “Mediterranean weather”.

It's capitol kingdom is Rai, and it's current ruler is King Veles.

Celestial Kingdom

Celestial Kingdom is a huge island smack dab in the middle of Godheim.

A history of turmoil and upheaval took place in this region for over a thousand years. It was once ruled by a creature known as King Heylel, who was also the king of angels in his regions. But after many years, a god named Yurva challenged him to the throne of the Celestial Kingdom and wanted dominion over all life in the eight worlds.

Heylel was opposed to Yurva's rules and power trips. So a war in the Celestial Kingdom took place, between Heylel and his angels, versus Yurva and his angels.

Yurva proved victorious and banished Heylel and his group of angels to the Helheim region of Sheol, where Heylel took on a new identity: King Scratch.

The current ruler is Yurva, and the capitol kingdom is Paradise.

Who ends up in Godheim?

Before the cataclysm, only people who died in battle were allowed into Godheim. But centuries after the Twilight of the Gods ended, people who were heroic and strong willed ended up there and either became Valkyries or Einheriars.

However, despite it's reputation as a vision of heaven, Godheim can still be a dangerous place for those who are careless. Beasts of heaven lurk in various parts, and are wild and are unable to be tamed, even by standards of the most skilled or heroic souls.

However, life in Godheim is what you make of it. If your soul ends up evolving into a higher being, or even a valkyrie or einheriar, life can be a bit easier for you. You are given your own home in their kingdom, be given magical liquors, food and you are able to visit various worlds of Alerfa, as well as visit creatures in their dreams.

Those tired of being in Godheim and/or want to take a break from their life in the Light World have the choice to be reincarnated into a mortal body and sent to live in one of the six worlds of Alefa. But be careful what you wish for, because it is uncertain of what will become of your new mortal life.
