I was not sure I would finish this in time for Balticon and I hope that the pictures I have of it are good enough (it is cloudy and grey out and I can not get good outdoor lighting photos of this. And I won't have a chance to get better ones if it sells at Balticon this weekend.) So anyway, I had a lovely oval frame, wanted to do something Steampunk for it and this is what I came up with. I had considered putting a couple of people in the foreground but after many attempts, it was clear I was not going to be happy with that. So I suddenly thought of doing a Unicorn, something I had not painted or drawn in many years. So here is "The Dragon and the Unicorn", 17 1/2 x 13 1/2 oval, Acrylic, watercolor colored pencil and ProWhite on Canson board. Original and prints for sale.
Possibly a new favorite of mine. I really love the lighting on the left side of the mountain, though I think the dragon ship could have used a slightly brighter white highlight or two on the carriage or figurehead.
Thanks! As for the highlights on the dragon ship, if you pay attention to most of my other Steampunk airship things you may notice I tend to like to do a lot of highlights on metal. In this case I decided to try and keep it a bit subtler to make it more Bronzy and to help with putting it a bit more distant. I really appreciate the kind words and the critique.
