Drywinds (map) [bubbleverse] (critique requested)

Accelerando

i made a map. i must label it soon

Drywinds is a small, arid moon, and the homeworld of my space-goats, who still need a name :X

its utter lack of oceans has given rise to a landscape dominated by tall, yellow continental "planos" and titanic red basins run through by elongated, narrow seas and snaking rivers.

Drywinds sails around its mother planet on an orbit so wide that it experiences a full seasonal cycle every day, which is about 40 earth days long. because of this extraordinary length, there is a constant wind blowing between the night side and the day side, and heavier storms along the twilight zone are a fact of life.

while the moon on the whole has less than 5% of Earth's water, it is still lush where water can be found. nowhere is this more apparent than in the Great Watershed Basin, pictured in the center-right of this map.

its vast open plains sit deep enough in the moon's surface to remain comfortably warm for most of the year, even through the long night, and accordingly it retains the most liquid water of any locale on the surface. the Basin, and the lush continent to its west, are a seat of empires; and its expansive waterways, highly contested for their economic and military value.

I feel that this is an incredible feat of singular human effort though I understand you may have spent much longer on other pieces. I suppose I simply am not used to seeing maps around, and a world with such an intricate network of waterways is an enticing place.

thank you! this was definitely a lot of effort, yeah - about 8-9 hours, one of the most in depth pieces i've done! i'm glad to bring more maps into the world ,and i'm really happy the waterways resonate with you. i know that feeling - i love craggy, riverine terrain dotted with seas and lakes, it feels wild and untamed, and peaceful and homely, like.

I also love thinking about exploring the world through narrow waterways... and even if they are just small streams, their presence can make a scene so much more complete and beautiful. water is life -- anywhere it is, living things flourish.
