Coy in the Kelp by arphalia

Coy in the Kelp

arphalia

Been wanting to reign in my usual super bright blues and go for something more soft. Still getting used to light and underwater scenes. They are oddly difficult but calming at the same time. Used a sepia undertone at first, which looked like he was swimming in a muddy river at first (nerve wracking) but I'm glad it turned out okay (so much relief!)

This one I did for myself to specifically fit a dark wood frame I found at a thrift store, so its not quite one of my standard sizes but its very very close to 5x7 inches.

Done using India inks by Bombay on coldpress watercolor paper.

So incredibly beautiful! I've never tried drawing an underwater scene, that must have been fun! I should give it a try sometime, I love marine creatures. This whale looks amazing, and I love how you did the marine vegetation. And how you used lighting coming from the sun in the sky above. Very beautiful!
