Sprite Badge by tsunderdog (critique requested)

Sprite Badge (critique requested)

tsunderdog

LadyFuzztail wanted me to try some spritework, so I did. This isn't my first sprite, but it's the first one I've made to specifically be on the web as a graphic. (Usually, I convert to cross stitch, but this one would be too large for a standard badge)

There's an animated variant too, but it's ultimately a bunch of fail and I need to figure out a better method to animate two things at once. Maybe Flash or something.

EDIT: I made it smaller and animated it better.

That's really nice :D Is it meant to be in the style of any game in particular?

Thanks! And not really, I just took a sketch and manually pixellized it. The high collar is reminiscent of Castlevania and other fantasy games, maybe, but I didn't have any game in mind. (Magical girls, etc etc)

I guess if I had to attribute the style to anything, it would be the limitations of an NES screen. If I was being really snarky, I could take some time when I do the final sprite and put it on a 16x16 grid and emulate a 4-color NES pallet on each square. It is probably not worth the effort though.

If you get enough perler beads, you could actually make it as a con badge.

It would be a HUGE con badge. As a cross stitch it would be about 8x5 inches. Perler makes even bigger pixels than aida cloth. The smaller one would be about 6x3 inches, which is a little better, but if I want a smaller badge i will have to condense the spritework even more. (And as such, also reduce any costs, because I did a 100x100 that took me, if I recall, 3 full days of work)

Well, a huge conbadge would be a cool talking point tho XD

Everyone could identify me from clear across the convention.

I've always loved the little P-wings on your character.
