(Cherry Blossoms) Never Stay the Same [Adult]

Woofle

This, along with the child version, is another song I touched up while going back through Elancia Chronicles' soundtrack, in preperation for completing it all this year. (I've only been working on the soundtrack and the novel since 2008 hah... ugh... depressing! :D)

When Versearrun returns to the village as a grown woman (at least in her mind) eleven years later, many things have changed. The Sea Goddess is no longer worshiped, and the religion surrounding her has all but disappeared after being classified as a 'demonic cult'. The temple and village were ransacked eleven years ago, and many families moved away never to return. Some children grew up and moved away, leaving their parents behind to wither away along with what was left of the village.
Although over half of the houses and shops are now vacant, there are still some families living here, and some children still in the schoolhouse where the girl first learned to read and write.
Seeing it all now feels otherworldly, and leaves an empty feeling in her chest. She can still see the ghosts of herself, her best friend, and their pet pig playing in the overgrown alleyways, and in the broken remains of houses.
Now, the ruins that cover the island feel just as empty as the town.
The town is nothing but home to very very awkward memories, regret, and loneliness. It's shocking that such a vibrant town could fall into such disrepair.
Her mother and father left her behind, and later, she left the village. Yet, here it remained, returning to the dust. It feels like she left part of her soul behind, if not all of it.

(This time around, I went for a quieter feeling to start off with, but as the wellspring of emotions build up inside the girl, the song builds up, too. No genre I have found really punches me in the heart strings quite like RnB, so there's a lot of influences from that when the bass and percussion really come in. As with the childhood version, there are bits of character themes hidden in this one.)
