Sol and Luna by ElrondDrakendil

Sol and Luna

ElrondDrakendil

Private commission.

Now THIS was a fun challenge! The commissioner requested a Sun and a Moon horse in the style of my planet horses, with the symbols for the other nine planets worked into the border. I chose to make the sun a big draft horse, and the moon a mini (miniature horse, NOT a pony)—which I'm happy with how that turned out. Another fun detail: while Sol is meant to glow with his own light, Luna is merely illuminated by him—as is the case with our real moon. I used textures from both the sun and the moon to decorate their coats. Turns out the surface of our sun is a similar pattern to a dapple gray! XD

There are also some stars in the background, some of them forming a very famous (Northern Hemisphere) constellation. Can you spot it?

Mixed media: colored pencil, inks, and metallic pen on 9"x12" bristol board.

Want to commission me? I have flat rates for badges posted on my main page, and you can find my hourly rates for custom commissions (like this one) posted here: http://www.goldeenogawa.com/artwork/hourly-rates/

Please query first, though, since I'm not always able to take commissions. I will, however, happily discuss future projects and/or give you a quote.

Amazing...the dappling colours to the above horse really does look like the surface of the sun <3

Whoa, cool! The coat of the sun horse is fantastic, and the subtler details on the moon work really well with it. Did you use the same gold metallic pen in the sun horse? It must look so much nicer in person!

Thank you! And yes, I used some gold pen on the Sol. :)
