Some ideas i had to put down.
Wow, I'm having a hard time coming up with anything that could be added/subtracted/changed here...
The composition is really eye-pleasing, and I like that the background is more monochromatic than the foreground. The only thing I can think to add is a little touch of white highlight on the tops of the forest spirit's head, to suggest the moonlight falling on him.
Otherwise, this is a pretty spectacular piece!
I know you've listed this as critique requested, and I really do wish I could offer some constructive criticism here, but I really do love just about everything about this piece. This, along with your other work seems to really blend a whole lot of styles I dig. The background seems like something taken out of a mix of a 1950's/60's cartoon and the characters seem to come from a whimsical storybook.
Also really like the stark contrast of the colors for the fox character compared with everything else going on from the surroundings to the spirit. The fact that the fox is so small in the foreground at the bottom of the piece when it gets more fantastical as the eyes drift upwards really I think helps sell the idea of isolation when confronting this supernatural being, with the single light source of the lantern being the only small, almost insignificant representation of "safety" in what may or may not be an impending dangerous situation for the fox.
Just so much going on in this to love. Absolutely outstanding work and you deserve every bit of the attention you've received from this.
