SkekSarr The Proud by Shimmerscale

SkekSarr The Proud

Shimmerscale

Just a doodle of my Skeksis character from an RP. This guy is based (in looks and some personality) loosely on SkekUng from The Dark Crystal. He is younger and covered in more feathers/fur than most of the Skeksis.

The RP was based on the 'What If' factor of the Skeksis killing off Jen instead of allowing him to replace the shard. The owner of the RP (Said RP has been offline for ages unfortunately due to RL problems) had the Skeksis as a larger race with many more members who were under threat from the Mystics and another race that was to remain unnamed mysterious until the final battle that we never got to...It was an interesting plot.

SkekSarr is © me.

The Dark Crystal is © not me...Jim Henson...etc

EDIT: Added the RP plot here:

The cloning and transfer thing was my idea, the original idea was simply that there were more Skeksis than in the film and they had to worry about the other mysterious race coming in and killing everything. I may do a Fanfic with only the plot parts that were mine and change up the events and names of the other clones so as not to infringe on the RP itself, I may just follow SkekSarr and his UrRu counterpart and leave the others as secondary so I don't have to flesh them out too much; the people who played those other clones did such a good job with the names and personalities that I think I won't be able to - even changing the names and what not of the characters - build them up enough for a good fanfic that covered that whole clone plot. If I followed only my characters, sure, I could probably pull it off without showing of the other's work.

Okay, so for RP purposes the conjunction was extended, so that it would happen in ten or so years instead of the time it did in the film. Meaning that SkekUng would have a longer reign as Emperor before the conjunction happened. Also that Skeksis and UrRu matured faster than what was probably canon.

The main plot was that Jen was killed by SekUng after finding the shard, long before he could even get into the palace of the Crystal. With him dead there were no more Gelflings to drain essence from for the mass of Skeksis so they had to come up with a new way to deal with the aging problem until the conjunction. Enter SkekTek...With an idea of cloning the bodies of each Skeksis and then finding a way to transfer the minds to the new bodies. It probably would have worked far in the future with better technology, but as it was, they failed to get the transfer to work.

The bodies were cloned successfully and had to age from birth to near teen-hood before they would be strong enough for the transfer. Which meant the Skeksis donors had to go through the conjunction with their withered bodies, and hope that any power they get from the event would be transfered over to the clones later. No one wanted to have an old body forever.

But no one could expect that the clones, which were modified to be pretty much brain dead until a certain point for the transfer to work, would actually fight their genetic programming and wake up long before the time was right.

This is where the plot started out, with each clone waking at ten years old, just four or five years before the conjunction was to happen. Each one drifting a bit from the donor in personality and looks due to the modifications done for the transfers. Each took a new name and started rebelling against the older Skeksis, who were desperate to keep the clones in check long enough for the transfers to be complete; there was no way for the donors to survive without these clones. They soon learned, however, that they would not be able to do the transfers, as none of the Skeksis elders were strong enough to deal with the modified fresh Skeksis.

A little war was had and ended two years later with the donors letting the clones live as separate Skeksis, with the promise that something would be done to help the elder Skeksis keep going long enough for the conjunction and to give them younger bodies. Basically our RP had the clones and the donors in a sort of Cold War, neither side wanting the other to live but not being stupid enough to try fighting again for fear of killing off the Skeksis race completely.

SkekSil was the only one out of the donors who liked his clone enough to stay an ally, well, SkekAyuk was sort of okay with his own clone, but only because it identified as a female and wasn't exactly like him in personality. SkekSil's clone didn't do the 'Hmmm' thing but was just as annoying in the manipulation department and spent most of his time causing trouble for the elder Skeksis by starting rumors about other elder Skeksis trying for the throne.

None of the clones had a UrRu counterpart at first, but shortly after 'waking' the clones realized they were feeling empty, sort of only half themselves, and set out to clone an UrRu for themselves. There is where the problem came in; the clones got their counterparts by cloning the counterparts of their donors and doing some fancy mystical stuff to tie them together, but didn't take into account that the new clones would be much younger than them. The UrRu didn't like the idea of the young ones being clones but wouldn't let the Skeksis have them for fear of what they would do with them. So the second war started, this time with the UrRu, as the clone Skeksis wanted their counterparts close to keep them from harm but the UrRu didn't want the Skeksis to have the clone UrRu.

It ended with the UrRu moving in the middle of the night to a new place, unknowingly guarded by these unidentified ultimate entities, that would soon become the enemies of all the creatures on that world. During this time, SkekTek's clone started cloning the elder Skeksis again, but this time secret, modifying the genetics enough to allow for breeding eventually without the problem of inbreeding. I personally don't know how the clone was able to go about doing this without the elders finding out, but that was what was happening. The clones were not going to let the elders live, instead, they themselves planned on making enough modified clones from the original Skeksis to repopulate the species, and hopefully find a way to make it possible to not NEED an UrRu counterpart for future generations. The first gen clones, SkekSarr and the others, were going to take the place of the elders in the conjunction, or at least that was the plan, with only a few of the elders who got on with the clones being allowed to join them. We never made it in the RP to the conjunction before it ended due to problems in RL for many players.

I love the Skeksis. They're the reason why I love TDC.

Me too on both accounts! I will (plan to anyways whenever I get the materials) be making a fullscale suit/puppet of this guy in the future. Not sure if I'll be making him a puppet to control from outside of him or a wearable animatronic suit.
