Operation Desert Rock

Whatupwidat

For those who don't know, Operation Desert Rock was the name of 8 exercises conducted by the US military in the 1950s. The intent of these operations was to discover how combat soldiers operated in the near vicinity of an atomic explosion, and as such thousands of US military personnel, mainly Marines, were told to sit in foxholes while an atomic bomb was dropped a few miles from their positions - they then got up, and advanced towards the cloud.

At no point were they told the full extent of the radiation they were being made to absorb, and as such many treated it like a giant firework display...so this picture is basically that, an emulation of what is essentially nativity and trust in the face of absolute evil.

I'm a cheery guy :P

Art wise it was a sketch inspired by this photograph - http://www.livinghistoryfarm.org/fa.....a/life0501.jpg that I just felt I really wanted to finish, so I did...it's basically just lighting effects and painted colours with an inked sketch of my fursona in period 1950s USMC gear...but I think it's pretty good :D
