"She had never seen a lion like this before. She feared what the others would say when she returned to the pride, and she was right to worry. “You should have just abandoned him where you gave birth,” said the elderly lionesses, “He will only bring us trouble with his strange coat, it is an ill omen.” The mother was shocked; she refused to abandon her cubs and bow to the demands of the elders and their superstitious ilk. Kei, as he had been named for his white coat, was part of her first litter. She knew his differences would end up being special one day; the others just couldn’t see it yet."
