"The Tenebrous One."

Sparkyopteryx

An obscure character that I hadn't drawn for over six years that I felt like drawing suddenly a couple months ago; a color study of a black character mostly. So yes, this became a full-blown lighting and color test that got gloriously out of hand. This portrait was done with the question in mind the entire time: "How to color black without losing depth or feeling." Yes, he looks like a Disney villain...

For those long-term watchers, yes he looks strikingly similar to my main character Topaz. Well that's because he's supposed to look just like her; he's her twin after all. It's actually rather fitting I never draw him, instead favoring more frequent depictions of his sister; he's not exactly accepted in l'tahr society after all. He's a pretty nice guy; a gentleman type with a bit of cad thrown in. He is thoroughly mischievous though, and he will not hesitate to turn up his innate creepiness factor to show some thug just who he's messing with.

Done with Prismacolor Markers, Derwent Coloursoft pencils and a white gel pen. No references. Done in about oh, 2 and a half hours max. The character Unghopaz and his race the L'tahr are my creations.
