That's A Lot Of Water...

Torin_Darkflight

I have lived my entire life in Iowa. During this land-locked life, the largest body of water I've seen is Clear Lake, which, although large by Iowa terms, is actually rather small. All of the lakes in Iowa, even the largest ones, are effectively just oversized ponds.

In 2010, I drove to Detroit to visit a friend. On the way there, I stopped in St Joseph on the east shore of Lake Michigan for a break. While there, I found a park with an observation deck overlooking the lake. Having grown up in Iowa, my mind simply could not comprehend the sight of water with no land visible on the other side. Needless to say, it was breathtaking.

This picture was taken looking southwest, in the approximate direction of downtown Chicago. SUPPOSEDLY...if atmospheric conditions are just right, you can see the very top of the Willis (Sears) Tower from here, about 65 miles across the water. This wasn't one of those days, unfortunately.

Picture taken using a Fuji FinePix S700 on Automatic. This will eventually get moved to scraps.
