Yet we must speak__we the unique glowworms
Out of the waters and rocks of our little world
we conjured these flames__hooped these sparks
by our will__From blankness and cold we fashioned stars
to our size__and signalled Aldebaran~Vancouver Lights, 1941, by Earle Birney
I'm alive!
And with my first new artwork of 2010! This was created for an assignment in my Narrative Images drawing class. We were given a poem, Vancouver Lights, and asked to interpret it however we pleased. This new drawing class is a great deal more open and self-directed than the last one was, so I'm excited, and at the same time dreading, the outcome of my major projects in this semester.
This picture is made up of two parts that I stitched together in Photoshop, so that it looks the way that I intend it to be framed once I find a frame appropriate for its unusual proportions.
All in all, I'm very proud of this piece, but I wish that my scanner didn't decide to trace out every single dimple of the textured watercolour paper I used...
Media Used: Coloured pencil and white ink over watercolours.
