Minamoto no Shirabyoushi by Luprand

Minamoto no Shirabyoushi

Luprand

Sort of a hurried bit of art, as NIkon had requested something vulpine for "Foxtober" ... and the next thing I knew, I was researching shirabyoushi dancers and downloading the sasa rindo mon of the Minamoto clan because I am a freaking nerd.

Shirabyoushi was a style of traditional Japanese dance that was first established in the 12th century. It was also the name for the female dancers, who would wear traditionally masculine clothing (red hakama trousers, white suikan jacket, kawahori hand fan, and tachi sword) The most famous of these dancers was Shizuka Gozen (Lady Shizuka), the lover of Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
