Naya by Doran Eirok

Naya

Doran Eirok

(2009) Naya's probably the character of mine with the most depth and personality. She had a rather unspeakable childhood with one parent dying and the other going mysteriously insane. After running away from home she stumbled upon a dead city that had once been the home of a powerful society of dragon sorcerers. The ghostly caretaker of the city, his spirit still bound to it by the force of the magic he watched over, imparted the collective magical power of the entire dead society upon the broken young dragoness.

The rush of overwhelming power joined with the pain of her childhood and her fear of ever feeling that helpless again, and drove her slightly power-mad for a number of years. Over time, exposure to the world and the forces of love and friendship from a few special sources along the way helped her see past her pain and fear, to where she now remains a rather more gentle (if still incredibly powerful) dragoness, seeking to repent for her earlier wrongdoings by being helpful and doing good where she can.

Naya's body is covered by a soft, shiny leathery hide rather than scales, and the green runes down her back were acquired with her magic and mark its presence. They glow whenever she uses it.

Naya's tale is told here.
