20 Years Of Spongebob

On this day, 20 years ago, in 1999, Nickelodeon's most longest running Nicktoon debuted. May 1st, 1999 was the premiere of "Spongebob Squarepants".

While Spongebob isn't nearly my cup of tea, as much as Nickelodeon shows prior to this (My interest in Nickelodeon was fading at the time this show came on), I still felt very obligated to do draw this, not simply because of this show's milestone, but a more essential reason behind it.

Last November, the creator of Spongebob, Stephen Hillenburg passed away, and thinking about the joy his show brought to kids and adults worldwide made me want to deliver my praise to him for creating a show and franchise that generates happiness to others. I believe happiness is a fuel to motivate and encourage people to make our world a better, brighter place. Even small and simple joys can spark willingness to make the world better. The happiness generated by Spongebob may have motivated those to brighten up our society, and we have Mr. Hillenburg to thank for creating a show that can do that.

I created this fan art as a dedication to the late Stephen Hillenburg. It's a way for me to express my gratitude to him for creating something that brings joy to people of all types and all places.

This one's for you, Stephen! You'll always be remembered. Thank you, and godspeed!

    Spongebob is my most favourite cartoon and I'm just glad it's still kept going alive to this day. I was born 1999, the same year Spongebob's first episode was released. I've always enjoyed this show ever since when I was little and I actually enjoy not just the old but both the old and the new Spongebob ^-^ Also r.i.p Stephen Hillenburg, thank you for an amazing show and thank you for bringing lots of joy, laughter, and comfort to many of us who enjoy what you do <:3 2018 was the worst year existed for many reasons including the deaths of many such as the creators of Spongebob and Marvel, so I'm glad we're finally done with the crappy year 2018. Here's to hoping we'll never experience a horrible year like that ever again. Also I just wanna say, your art's really good Cyan :3 I had alot to say, so apologies for my rambles.. ^w^; /fr /nbr /js
