Trips to a tropical paradise may come with some caveats!

Inspired by a true story; when I was last in Costa Rica, I visited Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park, which was certainly an experience! All told I hiked over 8.2 kilometers (up hill both ways) and while much of trail was through fairly dense dry tropical forest, it was so windy that I saw hardly any birds and couldn’t even listen for them most of the time. There was a very pretty waterfall at the end of the trail though, which was quite impressive even during the dry season, but I still would have liked to have seen an Emerald Toucanet!

Also, while I don’t recall the bugs being bad at the park itself, there were vicious biting gnats in the region which left my arms and legs looking like pickles for the duration of my trip!
