As modern technology began to outpace the refit capabilities of the NF-21 Skydog, arms manufacturers began designing the next generation of aerospace fighter and competing for lucrative government contracts. Out of seven designs, the SF-30 Hurricane was chosen by the Central Authority's Military Acquisitions Committee as the successor to the venerable Skydog, and production began in earnest in 2531.
The SF-30 discards the Skydog's atmospheric re-entry capabilities in exchange for vastly improved performance both inside and outside an atmosphere, as well as boasting increased payload capacity. The oft-finicky chainguns of the Skydog were replaced with miniaturized particle accelerator cannons that incorporate technology reverse-engineered from Val'Turri weapons systems.
