Bodensee Bathing

Bellumsaur

A beach/swimsuit-themed drawing, this one a bit different than the ones I normally do, namely since it's set in the 1940s and it depicts characters I wish to write a story about in the future. So, Maria von Aichhalden returns with a male char, Christopfer Welbaum, this time on leave from the front, after the 119th Grenadier Regiment was shifted back across the Rhine to rest near Villingen in late July 1941 after months of fighting in Strassburg left it exhausted and heavily depleted. They took the leave as an opportunity to stay at a hotel in Konstanz, right by the Bodensee, for a few days to relax and have fun both in the town and on the Strandbad adjacent to it.

In this instance, Maria feels apprehension at wearing a swimsuit and exposing her body, an irony given how Christopfer's swimsuit is far skimpier than hers (and he doesn't mind one bit). It was definitely an idea for a drawing like this I liked, given how much skimpier men's swimsuits of this time period were than the women's. Sadly, I'm not entirely happy with how Christopfer turned out in terms of his colors, though I do like Maria's coloring here more so than the previous drawing I did of her.
