Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura, a.k.a. Puffy AmiYumi
This hot rockin' duet from Japan is best known in the US for the Teen Titans' theme song.
A couple of years later, an animation studio approached them and proposed a series featuring them. They agreed, and the rest is history!
Of course, this isn't the first time a real musical group became a cartoon series...There have been others:
