Red Straggler Ship Scale Chart

KronoGarrett

These are a representative sampling of the large spacecraft from Zalcoti's Red Straggler, including both civilian and military vessels. None of these ships will feel the caress of an atmosphere unless someone's truly desperate to save a few meters per second of delta-vee capability and risk the wrath of the Orbit Guard.

Objects in this image are scaled to roughly 1px = 1m. There are outlines of various Terran vessels and structures for comparison purposes.

Lightning Bug-class Patrol Cutter
57m long
7m hull diameter
8 standard missiles, 2 kinetic energy CIWS, 1 solid state THEL (2.4m primary mirror)

The Lightning Bug-class patrol cutter is among the smallest crewed combat vessels, and utilizes metastable propellants in order to provide high thrust and ∆v. Its missions are highly limited in duration. A rescue cutter variant exists which replaces the weapons systems with a docking collar and a specially outfitted passenger module, in addition to a small mission crew.

Starbus-type Personnel Transport Vehicle
60m long
10m diameter passenger module

The Starbus-series (comparable to the competing 8x8-series) of short duration orbit-to orbit transports is a common sight near planets, moons, and clusters of free-flying habs. Instead of a passenger module, various pressurized and unpressurized modules can be carried.

Scratchfleet-type Missile Corvette
240m long
24m hull diameter
2x16 round rotary launchers, 16 VLS cells, 2 kinetic energy CIWS
18m centrifuge module (9m effective radius, 0.36g at 6rpm)

A somewhat improvised missile corvette built from a smaller cargo vessel. The epitome of all-or-nothing armor protection. Its lackluster power and cooling systems prevent it from fielding significant directed energy weapons, but the shipyard was able to scrape up a good mix of missile launch systems.

Quicksilver-class Patrol Corvette
300m long
24m hull diameter
2x16 round rotary launchers, , 2 KE CIWS, 2 solid state THEL (2.4m primary mirror)
18m centrifuge modules (9m effective radius, 0.36g at 6rpm)

The grand dame of tin can spacers, hunting pirates and undertaking rescue missions for decades on end. This vessel is representative of a Block I ship that uses old-style cylindrical missile launchers instead of VLS cells. Her lasers are just as deadly as anything else in their class. Thanks to the centrifuge module (inside hull) that provides the living quarters with partial gravity, the ship can undertake long-duration missions

Mola-class Lightweight Starliner
290m long
12m diameter crew module
30m centrifuge modules (14m effective radius, 0.55g at 6rpm)

Mola-class Starliners handle most long-duration interplanetary passenger transport in the Azizos, along with a smaller number of the larger Azorran Queen-class liners and the "slow boat" cycler stations.

Muuli-class Lightweight Freighter/Packet
290m long
12m diameter crew module
22m diameter, 26m long cargo bay, break bulk and containers on truss
30m centrifuge modules (14m effective radius, 0.55g at 6rpm)

If it isn't particularly big and needs to be shipped a long way in a reasonable amount of time, it's probably being transported on a Muuli-class lightweight freighter or one of its equivalents.

Kerr-class Frigate
355m long
30m hull diameter
48+8 VLS cells, 4 KE CIWS, 2 solid state THEL (5m primary mirror)
28m centrifuge module (13m effective radius, 0.52g at 6rpm)

A thoroughly modern combat vessel, with impressively powerful solid state laser weapons and large VLS cells capable of handling high-performance antishipping missiles.

Azorran Queen-class Starliner
375m long
12m diameter crew module
40m centrifuge module (18m effective radius, 0.72g at 6rpm)
60m Starliner centrifuge module (28m effective radius, 0.90g at 5.4rpm)

These large starliners can provide Azorr-normal gravity for passengers in their 60m diameter centrifuge accommodation modules. Spun up to 6rpm, this module can provide gravity equivalent to Graboondo for the purposes of passenger acclimation.

Kalgan-class Medium Freighter
375m long
12m diameter crew module
30m diameter, 70m long cargo bay, break bulk carried internally
40m centrifuge module (18m effective radius, 0.72g at 6rpm)

The gold standard of general purpose freighters, capable of offloading cargo using tugs or lighters when there are no sufficient port facilities. Facilities are sufficient to carry a few paying passengers between destinations. One of these was involved in a highly-publicized mutiny incident...

Whiteaves-class Cruiser
425m long
40m hull diameter
96+16 VLS cells, 6 kinetic energy CIWS, 4 solid state THEL (2x2.5m, 2x5m primary mirror)
4x25m centrifuge module (12m effective radius, 0.48g at 6rpm)

The ultimate warship, at least by Azorran standards. It sports dramatically sloped armor, a truly mind-numbing number of missiles, and significant directed-energy weapons. While there paper designs for a battleship sporting a solid state high energy laser with a 10m primary mirror, such a craft would be uneconomical and pointless in the current environment. Such weapons are best left to the Orbit Guard's "laser star" installations.

Frahnz-class Bulk Carrier
730m long
200m spherical primary module
40m centrifuge module
(18m effective radius, 0.72g at 6rpm)

Also known as "dumbbells" by shipspotters. While there are some crewed models, most are automated haulers that ply the interplanetary transfer trajectories of the Azizos System. Typical payloads include slush deuterium, refined metal ore, hab subassembles, and even smaller spacecraft.
