Insomnia

Bandit

"The hours of the day do not compare to the long hours of the night, seemingly endless as our minds are left to their own demise through contemplation on questions we can't find the answer to, with almost nobody to share them with. How we generally long for when we can rest our head in hopes that within a few minutes we will find ourselves waking up to the new day. For some of us, we are in the midst of an internal struggle, worried about finances, work, relationships and or school, while some of us are just not ready to stop brainstorming, looking for any distraction we can find to draw out our respective fatigue."

I tend to find myself listening to a bit of downtempo or anything mellow with a dark ambience when I'm trying to beat my insomnia. This was one of those songs where I had to really go all out in order to make it, so when I was unable to sleep, I was working on this song. It didn't take too long to finish, but I felt it was the best way to encounter the production of this track. Some of my influences for this track was the general dark ambience from the Einhänder OST (mostly from the tracks "Ruins" and "Muddle") and a song by Atreyu (for big fans of the band, you'll have to guess which track I referenced in this :P). For many people with insomnia, we are usually looking for anything we can find to help us fall asleep as soon as possible, so the fast pace of the track was to symbolize the feeling of urgency. The warping effect mildly applied to the choir section was to symbolize being in a dreamy state of mind. A little past halfway into the song there is a break where the beat dies off, then picks back up rather quickly, symbolizing those moments where we're about to fall asleep and then BOOM, we hear a noise or our minds started racing again. It sucks being an insomniac. XD
