Wellington at Night by Hendikins

Wellington at Night

Hendikins

So I was in New Zealand avoiding the epic fail that was the Australian census, and an old friend of mine suggested heading up to Mt Victoria to photograph Wellington at night.

One little problem. For those of you not in the Southern Hemisphere, it's winter down here. That makes Mt Victoria a little cool and slightly breezy. I've shot in far worse conditions than that (like when I shot this, or pretty much anything during the northern winter), but the weather didn't particularly impress said friend and her husband ended up hiding in the car with the heaters on. Hey, wasn't my idea! :P

The Wellington CBD (middle of image) is north-west of where we were chilling out, with Oriental Bay and Lambton Harbour in between. There's also some pretty inhospitable terrain around Wellington - the big chunks of black are various parks/reserves where you mostly couldn't build anything much if you wanted to.

I've previously shot a panorama from the other side at the cable car terminus, Mt Victoria is visible on the right half of that image. If you look carefully you can see the summit lookout just in front of a transmission tower of some sort.

Still a little tidying up to do (a few remaining hot pixels, etc.) but that can be done later.
