Dempsey's Horrible Car

GOOD GOD, FINALLY SOMETHING RECENT!!!!!!

This is a panel from a comic I've been working on over the past few months. I liked it as its own composition, so here it is! I've always loved to work on scenery.

Dempsey's car is an absolute piece of crap. It stinks like burning oil, stalls in the middle of intersections, leaks fluid everywhere it goes, and can't make it across a parking lot without experiencing major engine failure. Just look at that car's face. It's muttering, "What did I ever do to deserve this?! I should have gone to the scrap yard 10 years ago!" Unfortunately, Dempsey is too attached to it to trade it in for another car. He could easily purchase a better car, but he just doesn't want to. He saved up for it by working overtime at the pizza place and views it as a prize for all his hard work. It doesn't help that he views himself as its doctor. Every time he jump-starts it, repairs a mechanical problem, or pumps the gas pedal in such a way that it manages to crawl through a green light without exploding, he triumphs like a surgeon who has just brought a patient back from the brink of death. The only way to tear Dempsey away from his precious car is to set it on fire and push it off a cliff.

Sorry about the big, weird lump at the bottom of the panel. It was originally a speech balloon in the panel underneath this one. I couldn't edit it out of the piece without cutting off a huge chunk of the drawing. Hopefully it isn't too much of an eyesore.

Media: Marker, india ink, and white gel pen. I used a 1980 Toyota Corolla hatchback for reference material, but I added my own embellishments and design elements: http://www.toyotaoldies.de/versuche.....ekt%20fisk.jpg

PS-I just noticed that Dempsey is driving on the wrong side of the street in a no-passing zone. OOPS.

Aw, thank you! I love to work with weird light sources, so your comment is much appreciated! C:

And the use of red glow on objects, the red purple of the lower sky, as well as the reddish foliage really make the focal point (the green car) pop great!
