ORIGINALLY POSTED IN 2011

I'm doing a history of the gryphons/griffons/griffins' forms and how they've come to be the diverse creatures we see today in artwork.

Many centuries later, the internet is invented, and griffins spread like wild-fire. Scientific people try to create a griffin that could fly, be realistic, and keep its fantastic air. At this age, it began to trade out its traditional bald eagle and African lion parts for any old mammals and avians. To keep with theme, we will follow the traditional animals. Striving for realism, two breeds of griffin emerged around the same time. One had feather-tuffs above the ear-holes as a horned owl would, a feather fan where the fur-tuff would be on its lion tail, and eagle eyes. The other had lion ears, tail feathers over the lion tail, and lion eyes. Still, these were one step away from perfection- they needed to breed into one.
