Gryphons Through the Ages 3 by SlippingStar

Gryphons Through the Ages 3

SlippingStar

ORIGINALLY POSTED IN 2011

I'm doing a history of the gryphons/griffons/griffins' forms and how they've come to be the diverse creatures we see today in artwork.

First version

Second version

Fourth version

Fifth&sixth version

Seventh version

It was now Europe's turn to attain the Gryphon for themselves. The lesser-known version of them came first- gargoyles. They were first statues on buildings to ward off evil spirits. The Europeans extended the bird region to the end of the Gryphon's ribs. This is its most balanced, yet seperate, form. The creature is still like two animals stuck together. The next generation of Gryphons, who would be called "Griffins", would change that.
