Hi again, Weasyl users! We’re back to announce another update to the Weasyl interface: Two Factor Authentication!

Account security is fun, and having your account accessed by someone other than you is not fun. In order to help promote fun and restrict non-fun, we’ve coded in a means to help you keep your account in your hands and your hands alone.

Two Factor Authentication (2FA), should you choose to enable it, lets you set up an authenticator to provide you a secondary time-based password each time you log in. After you verify your Weasyl password, your authenticator will provide you with your temporary token. Without both, no one is getting in.

It’s worth noting that that “no one” can include you if you lose access to your authenticator. For these instances, there is a safety measure. At the time you enable 2FA, you will be provided with 10 recovery codes. You should print them, save them, or record them in whatever secure manner is your favorite. These 10 codes each only have a single use so use them wisely. If you ever feel yourself running low, go to this page for more recovery codes.

So if you like fun and you like additional security (which as established earlier are basically the same thing), 2FA might be for you. If you just like the level of fun you’ve been getting so far, then maybe it isn’t. Again, this feature is entirely optional but an option we felt important to provide.

As a side note- all accounts that have any sort of access to user information will be required to use the 2FA feature. This includes all moderators, administrators, directors, and technical staff. We like to have fun at Weasyl, but we regard anything related to user information to be serious and a high priority.
