Cloudflare Security Issue

Posted by skylerbunny

Hello everyone! Today's newspost is about a recent site security concern. We've posted about it on the Weasyl Twitter but decided to put out a site update as well to be sure that the information is accessible to anyone browsing Weasyl.

Recently Cloudflare (an infrastructure company that provides several Weasyl services) announced a security issue in which some of the private information on Cloudfare's servers was leaked and cached on search engines. Here is Cloudflare's incident report. Cloudflare has since taken appropriate action to resolve the problem, and here at Weasyl we have also taken steps to assure that all of our users' private information is safe.

We have not been told by Cloudflare that we are a customer affected by the security leak. Nevertheless, we erred on the side of caution and logged all users out of their Weasyl accounts so all new sessions would be generated. Your password and e-mail address on your account have not changed; you simply need to re-login to your Weasyl account with your username and password. If you find yourself unable to log in to your account, please contact support@weasyl.com, using the e-mail address associated with your account.

Once you have logged back in to your account, we do recommend changing your password simply as a precautionary measure. We have no evidence that any information on Weasyl was compromised, but in cases such as this it is best to use every tool in our (and your) disposal to assure account security.

We realize that it is likely an annoyance to be logged out of your account with no notice, but we wanted to take quick action to keep our users' information safe.

Thank you for reading, and we apologize for any inconvenience. We're still working on site updates and features, so stay tuned!
