Hiya! I just wanted to say I admire your activity here and how you promote others to do the same. Weasyl is for sure underrated, its very sad to see a well built site with unique features be thrown to the side where folks will opt for places such as DA and FA instead (despite Weasyl being more artist friendly, among many other positives).
I first joined back in 2013 on the forums (under a different username), and am very inspired by you to come back. Thanks for all you do on Weasyl, and terrific gallery!
-
Hello, I see you're very active here and you're one of most popular users on Weasyl, so I have a question... How to promote art here on Weasyl? Any tips (and tricks) how to get more followers, more favs, etc. It would really appreciate your help.
-
Hiya there. The best way to grow a community in a smaller environment is to comment and favorite other people's content (and on your own) to show that you in fact exist here and aren't just a post ghost. Creating an environment that gets people to comment like creating interactive descriptions and writing answerable journals will help keep people around. Folks tend to not interact/comment with posts they know are from people who only upload and leave because it's assumed the artist won't even be here to read those comments anyways. Gotta put effort into participating in a community for it to grow around you in other words.
Raffles/freebies can also stir up people from the depths of the abyss, especially to help start out being found. Although this would end up giving you more work, doing a freebie sketch from time to time specifically for weasyl users will get people to see you are active on weasyl. I'm on a lot of artsites, so at the begining of the month I host a freebie on one day, and pick out one person from each site who posts.
Art Trades: Weasyl has a very interesting feature called "Collections", and it brings out networking in a way other art sites don't have. When you make artwork for someone on here, you can suggest for them to put it into their Collections. It is an entire folder that acts like you uploaded it, so your watchers see what you added, but Entirely links to the Original creator's post. So if we did an art trade, and I added the art you made me to my collections, all my watchers would also get your art in their submissions feed. Gift art and Art Trades are very powerful things on this site. (Commissions are also included in this, too. If you make art for someone else who exists on here, send it into their collections)
reddit: SO here is one that I use occassionally, is that when i'm quite proud of an artwork, I direct link it on r/furry. This helps people who aren't on weasyl find/discover this site when they otherwise wouldn't have interacted at all. Sharing or mentioning Weasyl helps grow the community a little bit. Especially since the site needs you to confirm new users are real people now (to prevent bot floods).

Oh wow, thank you very much! That all seems to be very helpful... I'm gonna try your tips out.
(tbh I didn't really expect you to reply but you did it and so much... detailed, I really appreciate it)
Haha believe it or not but just a few days ago I created a journal here saying that I'd accept 3 requests and guess what? Only one person replied. Of course it's better than nothing at all, but it's not what I expected. So I removed that journal entry (I felt kinda disappointed) but maybe I'll try to do it once again later.
I like art trades and that 'Collections' feature seems to be, umm, quite helpful. Hey, I just got an idea, what about... I see it here on your profile: Commissions: Sometimes. Trades: Open. So let's do it! Art trade! It would be my first art trade on Weasyl (but tbh I did it many times with artists on other artsites)-
@ requests: I only gather about 0-2 when opening for freebies here since folks are super spread out when they are online. If they don't post, then they just miss out until next time.
Sure, I wouldn't mind an art trade, but I am a rather slow person at the moment so bear with me. You can draw any type of finish for your part, I don't mind even a Sketch. I plan to make at least something Colored. Not sure if I want to Chibi or a General practice. Guess it'd depend on what your OC is that you'd like drawn in return.

Heya there. I can currently only do Sketches right now or Chibis. Any type of art in return is good with me.
I'd like art of One of these guys. Can choose as You'd wish. (Unless you had an OC in mind already.)

Me doing trades is practice work, so what I draw is all just practice and may be something
simple or more complex depending on what I'd like to try to learn while drawing. If you are
okay with me drawing for practice, art trades are quite fine. I am fine with any kind of art in
return.-
art trade go the same for me. but I try to go more detailed if the other artist is more skilled!
but yes that is fine.
Id like this character drawn if thats ok?

Hi, please don't add tags to my work in the future. I didn't know it was a website feature, and frankly I'm not supportive of it. I do tag my work, and I added exactly what I saw fit to. I don't find other users adding to my tags helpful, to me it's an invasion of privacy.
-
Go into your Settings > Community Tagging Restrictions and You can Personally Restrict specific tags from being added. The site has a Tag Adding feature Because it has features that are Heavily reliant on Tags in artwork. The Blacklist feature and its search system are very tag Specific. The search system only uses tags to find your work on here, not titles or anything in the descriptions.
-
That is only helpful for specific words and phrases I wouldn't want added, it wouldn't prevent other users from adding tags. I don't want anyone, save for a mod, to be able to edit anything about my submissions.
-
Then why not send in a suggestion to the Site staff. Weasyl has an email at the bottom of their site. It's useless to talk to me about it as I find it very important for Art to be tagged with anything relevant for Potential watchers and viewers to be able to find my artwork. I want people to both be able to find me for content they want to see, and also be able to be comfortable with watching me with the varying types of content I make that they might not want to see. People adding Tags to my own art is very helpful to me.
-
I have sent them an email and a message on Twitter, and while I appreciate your advice on how to block specific tags, your adding the tags bothered me for two reasons: I never asked for it and had plenty of tags already associated with the piece, and one of your tags was presumptive and possibly not true. The piece in question was for a friend of their character. You added the tag "male" to it, but I don't know 100% if he is or isn't. The creator uses "he" to describe him, but his creator is trans so he very well could be gender fluid. "Male" would not describe him, which is why as a precaution I left it out of my tags and don't tag characters with genders unless they are my own. You didn't know any of this, which is fine you were a total stranger, which is why this bothers me. I don't know you, and you never asked, or even suggested the additions. You just added them yourself.
-
-
-
-
That scared me, I thought my page was being hacked. I was not aware someone else could change the tags of a submission...I have to admit it makes me feel wary.
-
I can only add tags, I can't change yours.
Since this site is very Dependent on the Use of Tags because it has a Blacklist feature and the search system is tag specific, there's the ability to add tags the artist might not think of. I try to tag art with keywords that answer this question "If I had no clue who this artist was, how would I be able to stumble across this art in search?" The tags I added to your work is how I would find your work if I never saw it to begin with and was looking for content like it. I usually search for "Color"+"Animal", or if I'm getting specific about Anthro vs Feral vs Kemonomimi (usually add human to this, too). So if a Feral growlithe is what I'm looking for, your art would show up. I'm super glad to see you've been including the Character names already. Most folks don't, but when someone gets to know a character better they can start searching them by name. thumbs up
And other times I will tag art because there are folks who don't tag for the specific content that it is and I won't be able to utilize my blacklist to not see it. Example: Soft Vore (the swallowing whole and being alive thing) vs Hard Vore (basically this is just gore where something's being eaten. like normal). both are considered vore but I'm not a fan of Soft Vore, and am okay with hard vore. No one who draws Soft vore tags it as soft_vore, they only tag vore. I don't want to block all vore because it'd be detrimental to what I want to view, so I'll add the proper tag soft_vore.
There's also a rule in place for "Do not abuse the Tag system" so if someone is adding some real bad tags that don't match, joke tags, harassing tags to your work you can report them. There's no room for jokers for the tag system.

Oh alright that makes sense then. In that case, thanks a bunch for the help and it's appreciated. While I'm not exactly new to the site, I admit that I don't use it very often (deviantart is my main hub but that's not the point) so there's a whole bunch of stuff I have no idea about with the differences in how they function compared to other sites. I've just had scary run-ins with accounts being taken over every once in a while usually as part of a mass attack and it was weird to see something like that happen because I didn't know you were a mod. All the mods do on DA is....flag your art if 3 four-year-olds in 20+-year-old bodies say that it's "mature" to them or don't like whatever fandom the art's part of so I'm not used to seeing /beneficial/ things done to art as much. Again thanks!
-
I'm not a mod. It's a feature of the site that the community can help everyone tag each other's art.
Ah man, I know what you mean about DA, Especially the stuff relating to fandoms or mature art. I can't tell you how many people have a vendetta against bewbs, like.. normal cleavage even that you would see from a minimum v-neck shirt vendetta. And I had to block some real crazy people on DA over some Pokemon gore.

^_^ Since the search is super focused on exacts, I though Character names are important. Glad i'm not bugging you.
-
Ah. ...Yeah, Weasyl and SF are sites I use as addendums to DA and FA. I'm... not as careful about tags here. It's not willful, necessarily, albeit I'm aware of doing it. ^^
-
I usually Copy/Past my tags I used from FA into Weasyl. It still keeps all the tags separate so I don't have to write em again or edit things.
-
Sometimes I do---sometimes I have to decide whether I want to upload these here or not (Timmy's probably breaking a rule someplace). SF has an annoying requirement of commas between tags. I have to add those, and for whatever reason, coying them from FA results in elongated spacings beween tags. :P
-
Pretty sure it's okay if your worried about the butt?
- Not depicted using non-detailed nudity or cartoon nudity. (So like, if it's non-details or cartoon butts the rules say it's okay) ((its under the community Guidelines section)
-
Thank you. :3
...So are you a watcher or'd you just stumble upon me? Either way, I can give you a slot in my next art dump. :3
-
I just stumbled. Been watching front page to see how much art gets uploaded daily on weasyl. It's pretty consistent from what it used to be. I used to be able to see the same art the next day on page 2. Super wish this site got so much more promotion by folks than what it does still, as it's pretty nice.
is confused

Ah.
...This is a sketch dump: https://www.deviantart.com/martenferret/art/Sketch-Dump-2-2-754156490
It's just little request sketches done on a single sheet of paper.

I have space. The page is made up of requests from different users---not just one person. ^_^
What should I draw?
-
It might be out of what you would draw, since you draw really cute things, But I really love it when Uluri gets drawn with really really dumb derp faces.: https://toyhou.se/1098926.uluri XD feel free to completely ignore that idea, though, if it ain't up your alley.

I am not being mean, I am trying to tell you to Just stop this conversation so that it ends.
If you insist on continuing, rather than just moving on, I will block you. I do not like to
have negative conversations with people. It's not fun, it gets no where, and you seem to
keep thinking I'm trying to be mean rather than informative so this doesn't happen to someone else.
