            • Link

What about Inkbunny and SoFurry? I hear they've got a lot of active members as well.

I'm already a member of Inkbunny http://www.inkbunny.net/MrRoseLizard and I'm thinking of joining SoFurry now that I'm getting the hang of drawing anthro and furry artworks.

Also this website is very quite very little drama unlike DA. alot a of people left DA to come here to Weasle because of drama & bullying

It was quite the pleasant surprise to see a familiar username show up in my notifications, glad to see you're giving this site a shot as well!

Well, it is a good idea to branch out. Anything I should especially be aware of about this site?

      • Link

It's definitely a good idea to branch out, and it's hard to really find any good art sites anymore... Weasyl is a general art site, although it seems like a lot of its users are furries due to a bunch of drama on FA back in 2014, where everybody that was "leaving Fur Affinity fur-ever" wound up here for like two weeks. This also seems to be a site most people use as a secondary/backup site rather than their main, so it's rather quiet here sometimes. That's a shame though because this is a very nicely designed site--simple, effective, has a fully functional tag blacklisting system that once you blacklist a tag you'll never see anything tagged as such anywhere! Useful for when an artist you watch posts the occasional thing you're not interested in, or for things you'd just rather not see for whatever reason.

Also, there's "community tagging" so if you see something that's missing a tag you think fits, you can suggest that! Basically, that's what sets this site apart from others the most, the search function and the blacklist function, combined with proper tagging and the ability for the community to add tags if need be, really makes this a fun site to browse using search.

There's also this cool "collections" system for when somebody draws something for you, you can add it to your "collection" and it will send it out to everyone you watch, as if you had posted it yourself. I believe if anyone comments on or faves something you've collected, you will receive a notification about that as well. It seems like it was created to avoid the whole "reposts" issue sites like DA and FA have, making sure the original artist gets the feedback and recognition for their work. I suppose if one wanted to they could probably use the collections feature to run some sort of "group" similar to a DA group, not sure that's ever been done here though...

Also, this is both a blessing and a curse, but there don't seem to be many site updates. The site's sorta bare-bones and basic in some ways, but that also means there's not a lot of bloat and clutter and niche features nobody uses, no "updates for the sake of updating" like social media sites love to do. They got it right, and aren't trying to fix what isn't broken.

As for any sort of drama, there's not much that I'm aware of. I heard some complaints from a few years back that the admins here were real sticklers about things like only posting work you have the right to post, and people who would just photograph random stuff they own just to show it off, but I've never had any issues like that since I just post my personal art here like I do anywhere else.

Other than that... I'd really suggest just scrolling down to the bottom of the page, the FAQ page is full of useful information that I could spend hours trying to poorly explain myself. If you have any other questions, I'll do my best to answer them! I'm definitely glad to see you over here and hopefully more people will give this site a shot in the future too.

Let's try this again, since it said undefined...I am trying to branch out. Anything I should especially know about this site?

      • Link

It said "undefined" when I responded above, too, but they are doing some behind-the-scenes updating right now and that might be causing it--just refreshing the page makes the comment show as it should.
