"Ex-archaeologist studying Film & TV Production."

You have got to be awesome to talk to.

Does the general flippant attitude that Hollywood has tword historic accuracy in set design as well as events/paradigms ever get on your nerves?

      All the time :o

I can generally forgive tweaking events & facts to fit a narrative or setting but blatant inaccuracy (i.e. all of BBC's Robin hood costume) *Blarrrg*

There are some weird decisions film makers have made regarding accuracy and where they draw the line, for instance in the Russel Crow Robin hood all the wooden plates, bowls, ect. were provided by a guy who supply's re-enactors, but other more prominent elements where less accurately sourced.

But for comparison (and so I haven't only talked about Robin hood incarnations) I really liked 'A knights tale' coming in on a relatively modern song they made it clear it was a fantasy adventure not an accurate retelling of history (unlike some Robin hood & Arthurian based films), but little details like social & hierarchical dynamics of the era were fairly well represented, even if the costume was a times less so.

Seriously I could write an essay XD, but I hope that answered your question :)

History is a pretty big one too, but I think anyone who enjoys philosophy is a bit of a history buff.

Yeah, a lot of fight choreography grinds on me too. Not just from the horrible, horrible historic inaccuracies, but the general disregard for anything resembling technique :P

I understand that concessions must be made for it to remain an epic show down, and I can generally respect most of Bob Anderson's work (especially with Errol Flynn <3) but in general conveying accuracy seems to be an after thought, or a half-hearted token effort. I kinda wonder how much actual input 'historic accuracy advisers' actually get over script or set details...

I think when you spend so much time really studying any sort of subject mater you get upset when people don't really seem to pay it respect. For me it's especially frustrating because some of the directors I hugely respect for their vision and cinematography don't really seem to pay another art-form that I adore much respect. I feel the same sort of way for historic fiction films that don't seem to respect the source material.

I think it's pretty much an extension of my expectation of artistic integrity. If you're going to bill yourself as a historic fiction film, i expect history to be be at least half as important as the story :P Of course, that stance gets a little wobbly if you're specifically stylizing the world, I consider that a valid out artistically.... but yeah...

Long worded response that basically boils down to "I totally agree!"

        ^^
