I think I've asked you before, but do you use any special brushes to achieve the look you get in your paintings? Or is it just size of brush and color/light skills?
-
In PS, any hard round brush with Other Dynamics checked in the Brush Presets will do. If you want to get fancy, Texture and Colour Dynamics will help you to better imitate traditional media. I'll send you a link to some of my old brushes, if you'd like.

Do you happen to have any suggestions for how to best use/learn to use the swirly paint brush? I'm having a lot of trouble with the function where it's lighter with lighter pressure and only gets to the actual color selected with a lot of pressure. Is it just about always pushing hard? Thanks so much for taking the time to read.

aww yis, you have weasyl'd. And what on earth is going on in your new user icon? Any relation to the elderly gent with mutant bulbous boxing gloves from your old one?
-
It's the same guy! The pictures are from a photoshoot for some documentary (which I have not yet seen) and show the then 92 year old Arne Næss donning the climbing gear which he made good use of well into old age.
